Summer Skies

The weather in our area has been rather stormy and rainy the past week or so.

Saturday evening, Motor Man and I were coming home early from our local race track. As we were crossing the bridge connecting Newport News to our county, this was the sky.  (For a short distance, the bridge runs  parallel to a fishing pier.)

Later that evening, I scurried out in the dark to get this.  There was lightning and thunder in the distance.

Yesterday, we took a drive to the Outer Banks, and on the way home, encountered yet another storm. This was from the beautiful Basnight Bridge between Cape Hatteras and Nags Head.

About an hour later, we  caught up with the storm in earnest.  It was probably the heaviest rain I can ever recall. Most drivers had their flashers on and were traveling about 30 miles per hour. Many of them (including us) were thankful to find a safe place to pull over and wait.

Soon, we were back on our way, the sun was shining and we still had light rain. So I knew there’d be a rainbow.

And, once we were home, there was this beautiful sunset.

Our forecast for later today mentions a possibility of severe storms. We’re hoping that won’t come to be.

Interesting share! Now that I think about it the Hatteras being barrier islands are notorious from extreme flooding (water has no where to go).
    Glad you got off safely.
Great photodocumentary of our recent weather!

  2. You captured your weather perfectly with those great photos!

  3. Nice skies…..Yep – “severe” t-storms this afternoon – our neighbor said from his flight weather computer it looked like 2PM for here and that there may be some severe stuff. He said be prepared to lose power. EEEK. You guys stay safe especially if you’re driving somewhere!!
