Windowpane Wednesday: A New Visitor

A couple of weeks ago, we had a new visitor in our yard. This hanging plant is near our bluebird feeders (I should have removed the ‘tag‘), and I glanced out to see this unusual little bird. Realizing I’d never seen one like this before, I immediately sent the picture to my self-proclaimed bird-nerd friend, Donna, and asked her to ID it for me.

She reported back that it is a yellow-rumped warbler.  I chuckled at the name, and thought it odd that I didn’t really see any yellow on his rump. (From the look on his face, I don’t think he appreciates me talking about his rump!)

I sent pics to our local wild bird supply store, and they replied that these little guys are common in our area during the winter months, but they will be migrating north soon. And that this one is “molting into his breeding plumage”.

It’s always fun seeing a different bird just outside our windows.

  1. Well now he’s a handsome little guy – it’s really nice that you have some “experts” to help you identify your visitors…..!
