Sunrise Saturday From 36,000 Feet

The first leg of our flight to California left Norfolk at 6:30 am, which meant we got to see the sunrise from the air.  Since I always give Motor Man the window seat, he took this first picture. We were about an hour into our flight when this was taken.

I took this one from my aisle seat. Even the window of a plane benefits from the soft light of golden hour.

And Motor Man took this one.. I thought it was a nice touch that he got the wing of the plane in the picture.

Pretty, yes. But I must confess that I prefer viewing the sunrise with both my feet firmly planted on the ground.

  1. The golden hour from a plane. We all are just crazy about our picture taking 🙂 Thank Heavens! Beautiful 36,000 ft sunrise pictures Dianna! Oh, and Good Morning!

  2. Beautiful! When we flew back from Ireland last year, Dan got photos of icebergs off the coast of Newfoundland! Amazing – of course he had the window seat 😉 The photo with the wing was a nice one – provided a nice focal point with the sun over the top! Have a great day!

  3. So gorgeous…..sunrises and sets from the air – especially with lights below – are so magical. I can remember one across-the-Atlantic flight where we literally “followed the sun”. I love that first shot MM took although all three are grand.

  4. Sunrises look so different from that height — it’s more like a NASA shot than a regular “Dianna” sunrise. And still golden…

  5. Soooo pretty! I love the wing tip in the last one, too 🙂 Now, I can’t get that song out of my head….”I’m leavin’, on a jett plane. Don’t know when I’ll be back again….”

  6. pretty! I love watching the sky change from the air….except the part about getting up so dang early!

  7. Really loved the sunrise pictures from the air – very unique!

  8. I love being in the air and watching the sunset is a plus! I don’t like flying anymore because they cram you in tiny seats and my feet don’t touch the floor but it still amazes me that you can be flying around in the sky while watching tv and eating…that itsy bitsy bag of peanuts they give you to hold you over till your touch down!

  9. seeing it up high makes one feel so small and insignificant. 🙂

Taking pictures from a plane gives you such different view
points. The pictures all give so much beauty. When we flew to Washington state in 2001 we got a shot of a mountain peeking through the clouds. I must admit Dianna I agree with you about talking the pictures from the ground!
Have a good weekend and watch out for the snow 🙂

  11. Wow! Here’s a view you don’t get often! They do look like NASA shots.. the lights from below are awesome!

  12. You know, I’ve seen sunsets from an airplane, but I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a sunrise. Soooo beautiful.

  13. Beautiful:) Love seeing the sunrise from 36,000 feet…thank you for posting!

  14. I like seeing it here on your blog. 🙂 Would rather keep my feet on the ground, too.

  15. Neat shots from the plane! I’m with you…I’d rather keep my feet on the ground, too. Enjoy your weekend!

  16. I have never flown but can only imagine how beautiful it is.

  17. Your photos are amazing. They take my breath away! 🙂

  18. This is definitely a ‘departure’ from the normal sunrise shots. Sorry – couldn’t resist the pun.
