Today, I’m participating in Friday’s Fences, as I normally do. But my picture is a rerun from Tuesday. And I’m sharing an update on the horse from my Barn Charm post that day.
Many of my readers commented about the condition of this animal’s hooves. Not being that familiar with horses, I hadn’t even noticed them until I began reading your comments.
Yesterday morning, I took myself down to our county’s animal control office, armed with the above picture. And I asked that they please check on the welfare of this horse and then call to let me know what the outcome was.
I received a call within an hour or so. The officer said that this is a miniature horse; I didn’t know, and none of my readers was sure. And, thankfully, (coincidentally) in the time since this photo was taken on March 25, the owners had a farrier come and tend to the hooves. The animal control officer also said this horse is about 30 years old, and that she broke her leg about 10 years ago, resulting in the problem with her hind leg.
The officer said she should be fine, now that the hooves have been trimmed. And since I STILL know nothing about horses, I’m taking her at her word.
