Friday’s Fences –

Today, I’m sharing photos of an old homeplace in Surry county.

The family who lived here went to our church and had two daughters who were just a few years older than me. I really only remember visiting here once, and that was as an adult. A group from church went Christmas caroling, and the (elderly, then) couple who lived here was among those we visited. We walked through the opening in the fence and sang for them just outside the back door.

I blurred out the name on the sign, but I recall the man always driving an old dark green pick-up truck with the name of the farm painted on the doors.

  3. Oh I bet that place was something else back in its “youth” – it must have been quite a lovely house – that front porch is perfect for comfy rocking chairs!

  4. It seems in the top picture the fence is curved. I wonder if there is/was a vegetable garden on just the other side.

  5. There is a rocking chair on the front porch! Makes me want to paint that fence.. 🙂 Love the house and the big trees around it!

  6. It does look very old…nice memory for you!

  9. sweet place. sure would hate to try to keep that fence up, though.

  10. “Old Homeplace” … that’s definitely the phrase that comes to mind !

  11. Oh boy, with a little spit and polish that place could be so lovely!

The fence could use a coat of paint!

  13. I like the yucca plant at the fence, lot’s of very old homes seem to have them planted. The screened side porch is nice.

Lovely old home and fence. I hope the family that lived there had a good life. Have a good weekend.

  16. What a sweet old place, reminds me of a simpler time!

  17. The property looks like it was beautiful in its day. This picture makes me wish that I could grab some paint, a brush, a hammer, and some nails–and help restore some of its former glory.

  18. The fence has been doing its job for quite some time.

  19. I love the old country homes like this one. I’ll bet it was beautiful when the fence was freshly painted.

  20. I am trying to be able to comment again..this is my test. I hope it works! I’ve missed you.
