These pictures were taken earlier this month in beautiful, downtown Surry, Virginia (population 262).
Sadly, I didn’t have any horse treats with me. For shame.
Notice the floppy right side ear?
A friend was recently told that this is a retired carriage horse from Colonial Williamsburg.
I’ll try to verify that and report back to you. Whether it be true or not, I think he’s handsome, floppy ear and all.
Linking up to Friday’s Fences.

Oh he’s lovely 🙂 Great photo’s xx00xx

he’s probably loving his retirement, sweet old guy!
He’s beautiful. I’d like to give him a hug and a carrot. 🙂
Nice fence too.
He looks casually interested which I take as relaxed! 🙂 MJ
He looks very friendly..hope he is enjoying his retirement!
“downtown” – hahaha! I love this weathered fence…it’s in really good shape and still has that ‘been there forever’ look!
He’s beautiful. Floppy ear and all!
Grand photos Dianna! And I love the floppy eared horse. He has character. 🙂
He must use his good ear to hear what he wants to hear…..hmmmm, I have known men like that :-).
He is handsome and he looks like he was longing for a treat. You better start keeping horse treats packed up with your camera in the car. 😉
Beautiful big guy! Floppy ear and all…
That floppy flipped over ear is endearing. He IS handsome! He looks like he is enjoying retirement. He looks very interested in YOU! I am loving these pictures of horses you are coming up with.. 🙂
sweet old baby.
Before I even scrolled down to read the first caption, I thought “I’m sure she had some treats with her..” 😉 maybe next time!
I can see how he could’ve been a carriage horse … let us know if you find out more !
oohhhhh he’s gorgeous!! I always wonder if it is ok to give them a treat and what it would be!!
Surry has everything now, even lovely sweet horses. I love his face!!
His floppy ear just adds charm to his face. If he is retired from Williamsburg, he is one lucky horse. genie
I’ve never seen a horse with a floppy ear. You didn’t have treats? 😉
I love the idea that he IS a retired carriage horse from Williamsburg – retirement is wonderful and I do so hope he’s enjoying his! I think he’s quite handsome too – the floppy ear gives him “character” !!

He is a sweet baby. Loved being scratched behind either ear and sure wish I had had carrots when I visited him. I do no know his name, I always call hime “Dianna’s Horse”. A sweet ,sociable horse.
Sweet photos! I’m going to be in Williamsburg the week of May 23-May 30. We should get together for lunch one day! ~ Sheila
