Shirley was a classmate of mine through elementary and high school. As so often happens, we lost touch for many years, and recently reconnected. Now we get together occasionally with our mutual friends, Linda and Donna.
Shirley lives in her family’s old home place, and last week, I was invited there to take pictures of the peacocks. Apparently, it’s getting-together season for boy and girl peacocks, and supposedly, their feathers are “in full bloom”.
We’ll get to that later in this post.
First, here’s Shirley’s family home, over 200 years old; what a beautiful place.

Her sunroom is so bright and cheerful. She, Linda and I had a nice visit there, reminiscing about old times. (Donna had joined us for lunch earlier, but then, returned to work.) Then, the time had come: we went out to see the peacocks.
Shirley’s late mother named all the male peacocks, George, and all the females, Georgette. At this time, Shirley only has two peacocks, and they’re both males. George Number One wanted nothing to do with us. After teasing us with a quick glimpse, he made his way to the farthest corner of a shed, where he stayed during our entire visit.
George Number Two flew to the top of a drying trailer under another shed, where he decided to flaunt his feathers.
I have to wonder if anyone has ever taken pictures of a peacock from that angle before.
Thankfully, peacock displays aren’t a requirement to spend a nice afternoon with long-time friends.

Oh that house is beautiful – gorgeous sunroom too! As for that particular “George” – I must admit it’s the very first peacock rear end I’ve EVER seen….. 😀 …….nice that he managed to put his tail feathers DOWN long enough for you to get that last shot. They are incredibly beautiful birds.

I was going to say that too! Never have I seen a photo from that angle before! LOL Great shot! Did you get the chance to hear the peacock shake its plumes? It is the neatest sound in the world! I saw my first peacock while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico and was blown away with how beautiful they are.

What a treat! Friends, a beautiful old home, and peacocks, all in one afternoon! Can’t imagine living in a home that old…obviously there have been some updates. Still, it must be amazing to be in a family home of that age. Our house was built in 1920, and I often wonder about the people who lived there before us, and what history our home has seen. But compared to this, it’s just a baby! Love the sunroom and the feathers! ~ Sheila
A beautiful place – it wears those 200+ years very well; the porches are a nice touch.. I guess the peacocks were antisocial that day- but you still got a view that I know i’ve never had before 😉

Well. that peacock bottom was something, wasn’t it? Not a very accommodating fellow at all! But he still was quite handsome. And you friend’s home is just gorgeous! I’d love to ‘sit a spell’ in her lovely sunroom.
