It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Springtime

Before I share pictures taken in our yard this week, I have a confession to make.  I am SO far behind in accepting blog awards, so I’m going to take care of that today.  I know I’ve probably overlooked some, and if so, I apologize.

Recently I was awarded the Moment in Time award by both Georgette Sullins AND Mama at Mama’s Empty Nest. Thanks to both of them!

There are several questions to answer in accepting this award:

Who inspires you?  This time of year, it’s especially easy to be inspired by God’s work, as plants and flowers that have been dormant all winter re-emerge and bloom.

What is the hardest part about blogging, if any?  After over two years of blogging, I sometimes feel at a loss for a blog topic. That’s usually when Sundae steps in.

What is your favorite quote?  I have so many favorites, and I’ve shared those in previous posts.  This one comes to mind right now: “In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt”.

What is your favorite dessert?  Good Meadows Chocolate Fudge Pie from Kroger’s. We keep one in the freezer at all times.

What skill do you wish you had taken the time to learn when you were growing up? I don’t know that it’s a “skill”, but I wish I’d learned to swim before I became afraid of the water.

What is the one activity you wish you had the time to pursue? Since I’m semi-retired, I’m fortunate that I have time to enjoy blogging, taking pictures, visiting with friends…

If money was no issue, where would you like to travel? If I were to ever get the courage to cross the Atlantic, I’d love to visit Ireland and Scotland. Until/unless that time comes, there are many places in the US I’ve never been: the southwest for one.

What is your favorite holiday? Christmas is usually everyone’s favorite, but it can be a difficult time too, with bittersweet memories of loved ones no longer with us. I like the festivities of July 4.

What is your favorite pastime?  This will come as no surprise: riding on the beach at the Outer Banks with Motor Man in our old 4-wheel-drive Jeep, looking for the wild horses.

What book are you currently reading? I’m not reading any books right now – just blogs!

Do you play a musical instrument?   The piano.

I was also nominated for the WordPress Family Award by Dor at doranrules and Savannah of Savannah’s Paw Tracks. Thanks, Dor and Savannah!

Upon researching this award, I learned that it was started by Shaun at Praying For One Day.  Shaun wrote: “This is an award for everyone who is part of the “Word Press Family” I start this award on the basis that the WordPress family has taken me in, and showed me love and a caring side only WordPress can. The way people take a second to be nice, to answer a question and not make things a competition amazes me here. I know I have been given many awards, but I wanted to leave my own legacy on here by creating my own award, as many have done before. This represents “Family” we never meet, but are there for us as family. It is my honour to start this award.”

This award has no questions to answer (did I just hear a collective sigh of relief?). Although it requests that you nominate 10 people in your blogging family, I’m going to bend the rules a little, and just nominate three fellow bloggers for the Moment in Time award as well as the Word Press Family Award. (It seems that everyone either already has these awards or their blog is award-free.)

And, as promised, here’s a slideshow of springtime in our yard.

  1. Congratulations on the blog awards Dianna! Well deserved….and that slideshow of your beautiful plants is MAGIC….you most certainly have a green thumb which I suspect you inherited from your Mom – the irises are gorgeous. All that color makes for an enjoyable cruise through your yard (and keeps the deer and rabbits happy too I bet!!).

  2. Well done and congratulations! I don’t recall if I’ve ever seen a slide show here…good job in displaying the flowers you cultivate….just like you nurture our community. Your Aunt Martha’s iris traded from your mother is a treasure for sure.

  4. I LOVE the slideshow of your garden, how beautiful! Congrats on your well deserved awards…I’m so glad to be part of your “family”.

  5. Congratulations on your awards! I stopped dead in my reading tracks and googled that dang fudge pie! BooHoo we don’t have a retailer any place even remotely close to us to buy one and they have other goodies too.. 😦 The dark purple Iris is pretty pretty pretty! Iris come in second to my most favorite flower the peony. Pee-ah-nee or Pee-oh-nee?.. 😀 Would not be Spring without Iris, they remind me of my Grandad!

  6. We share a love of Irises….I’m so glad you have some of the ‘family’ irises! Your yard is always a delight to see.
    Congrats on your award!

  7. Beautiful slide show of your yard. I especially like the verbena and primrose at your mailbox. Your green thumb is showing! Congratulations on your awards. You know 4th of July was our favorite, too, for many years. Our trip to see the town decked out for 4th of July was so much fun.

I’m surprised you revealed your favorite dessert on here… now EVERYbody will want one ! 😉

  16. Never thought about keeping a frozen pie in the house…might have to look into that! That deep purple iris is amazing – what a depth of color. And I can’t even imagine having a plant that has a “lineage” so to speak! Thanks for your garden tour!

  17. I like the quote, a lot. Didn’t know you play the piano! I’ve seen no sign of my coreopsis this year.

Congrats on the awards and your yard pictures are lovely.

Dianne your flowers are beautiful! I am so glad you have and love Iris. Our grandmother Mae loved her flowers also. I have fond memories of her admiring her rose bushes. I could always count on Mama having red roses for us on Mother’s day. Sadly the roses proved to be too much for her to keep what with the bugs and the deer. Then she started raising Day Lilies but the deer were fond of them as well. Finally she settled on peonies and Iris it seems the deer are not fond of them. Sadly Dee and I do not dedicate enough time seperating the bulbs and cleaning away the weeds. But we still enjoy her dedication and hard work when they are in bloom. We got our love of digging in the dirt honestly. Congratulations on your awards I am so proud of you!

  20. Beautiful slide show! Still too cold for some of our flowers here. 😦

  21. Thank you very much for the awards; I enjoyed reading your answers and learning more about you 🙂 MJ
