Every trip we make to the Outer Banks is different: the condition of the ocean and the sand, how many horses we see, where we see them, whether we interact with any other visitors on the beach…
During our last trip, we had a first.
We saw three horses strolling by the water’s edge and drove by them. Motor Man stopped a short distance up the beach, so I could take photos. (For those of you not familiar with the area, designated parking is in the middle of the beach, and the areas beside the water and beside the dunes are considered travel lanes.)
We noticed a fisherman near where we parked. He had placed his fishing pole in the sand and was apparently taking a nap.
We wondered what the horses’ reactions would be to this person lying on the beach.

“Hey, dude…..fish biting?”
The fisherman was, apparently, unaware of the first two horses.
In the meantime, another fisherman a short distance away (perhaps this guy’s buddy) yelled something at him. He abruptly sat up as the third horse was walking by him. It was good for a laugh for Motor Man and me, as well as the other fisherman.
“In other news”, we also saw these two beauties, nose-to-nose, on the beach.
And these two apparently waiting for access to their rental.
As I said, our trips to the beach are always different, always interesting.

These are ALL great!! Love the pics of the fisherman soundly sleeping and the next one when he’s alerted he has visitors;)
They sure are! What a surprise for that fisherman!! Got a story just as funny – my brother-in-law was deer hunting and sat down at the foot of a tree and promptly fell asleep. Woke up to find a doe standing beside him nibbling on his jacket sleeve!
Startled is the word that comes to mind when I think of the fisherman waking up! And the horses waiting for their rental is smile worthy. Great pictures all.
It’s cool how the horses down there just mingle with everybody and everything that’s going on… you see them with the dog, with the fishermen, in the carports, and, once in awhile… on the beach ! ; )
Well that fisherman will have a story to tell too!
Pam
The fisherman can tell about the “three” that got away! lol
Beautiful horses on a beautiful day with some comedy to boot. Thanks for sharing the smiles.
