Monday Morning Mews: It’s A Box!

Hi, efurryone! It’s Gypsy here, and I have a fun Monday Morning Mews for you.

My pawrents always have a huge wall calendar in our office, one of those that shows the entire year.  When the 2018 calendar arrived a couple of weeks ago, Motor Mommy put the empty box on the floor, just to see if I would notice.

Then she took this video of me. It starts off a little shaky, but improves after a few seconds. Motor Mommy thought we shouldn’t edit out the shaky part, because she wanted you to see me pushing the box across the floor.

Did you see me jump just a little when my nose touched the file cabinet?  A little electrical shock there; that’s what happens when you play on the carpet and then touch metal.

So, what do you think? Did I do a good job inspecting that box?  I still don’t understand why I couldn’t fit inside it. They obviously just made it too small.

Ice, Ice Everywhere!

You may recall that our area was in the path of the “Bomb Cyclone” winter storm last week. Since then, we’ve had warm temperatures and most of the snow is gone.   There was quite a bit of ice on the river, though, and some of that still remains.

It made for some nice photo ops, and I’m sharing some of those pictures today.

Sunset, ice and a contrail Tuesday evening.

The setting sun was reflecting on a thawed area of the river, and some of “my” ducks were enjoying their little swimming hole.

Others were doing a bit of ice skating nearby.

The deer heard  there was a photo op and cooperated by paying a visit.

I took this short video yesterday morning just before sunrise. The roar you hear in the background is that of a work boat heading out to the James River.  There’s also some duck “chatter” with one rather boisterous one. I think he was demanding that I stop videoing and feed them breakfast corn.

Pretty scenery indeed, but is anyone else ready for spring?

Monday Morning Mews: The Giraffe Shirt

Hi, readers! Sundae here with this week’s mews.

You may recall that Motor Mommy became a huge April, The Giraffe fan last year.  Motor Man even treated her to a trip to Animal Adventure Park in New York in June for her birthday so she could meet April and her family. If you missed her post about their trip, click here.

Motor Mommy is a member of a couple of Facebook groups pertaining to April. Back in November, while shopping at Macy’s, she discovered a holiday shirt with the image of a giraffe placing a star on a Christmas tree.   She bought one and posted a picture of it on one of those FB pages.

Her fellow members just LOVED it. But many of them didn’t have a Macy’s near them (or their Macy’s didn’t have any of the shirts).  And it wasn’t available online.  A couple of the members offered to pay Motor Mommy to buy and send the shirts to them.  So Motor Mommy went to every Macy’s near us and bought the giraffe shirts they had for sale. THEN… she and Motor Man went on a business trip to Indianapolis, and they stopped at several Macy’s stores in West Virginia, Kentucky and Indianpolis to buy those shirts.

I think she probably mailed out about 30 of them all total. After the members began receiving their shirts, they posted pictures of themselves wearing them. So Motor Man took a picture of Motor Mommy wearing her shirt.  AND I got to be in the picture!

That’s all fine and well, and I was quite honored. But, I just have one question: WHY is she not a member of any calico kitty FB groups???   Hmm????

Bomb Cyclone 2018

Let it be known that we survived the “bomb cyclone” blizzard of January 3/4, 2018.

It’s hard to say exactly what our snowfall total was because the 30+ mile per hour winds caused drifts everywhere. Probably in the 6″ range.

This is at a little bridge not far from our house.  The snowdrift was up to the top of the guardrail. And, as you can see, the wind was still blowing.

The town sign looking quite Christmasy….after the fact.

This next photo is the entrance to a dear cousin’s property, also near our house. Our temperatures have been so cold ever since Christmas, very few folks have had a chance to take down their Christmas decorations. The snow adds a nice touch.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had this much ice on the river by our house.

Thankfully, although we had strong winds, we only lost electricity for a couple of hours yesterday.

So the “bomb cyclone” has moved on up the coast.  The snow was pretty, I got some interesting photos, children had a couple of snow days and enjoyed playing in it.  And now I’m ready for spring.

A Jar Full Of Happy

If you’re on Facebook, you may have seen the “challenge” that surfaces right around the beginning of each new year.

Find a glass jar (quart size or thereabouts) and a package of multi-colored note paper.

Every week, jot down something good that happened, or something that you’re thankful for on a piece of the paper and drop it in the jar.

Next New Year’s Eve, open the jar and read the notes.

Although I’ve thought this was a neat idea since the first time I saw it, I’ve never actually participated.

This will work especially well for folks like Motor Man and me who prefer to spend a quiet New Year’s Eve at home.

Yes, that’s a label on the other side of the jar.   Since I don’t can, my jar choices are limited. Friends of ours gifted us homemade Christmas cookies several years ago, and the label has survived many dish-washings and is still legible. No way am I going to remove it.

Do you like this idea? Are you in for the challenge?

Monday Morning Mews: Special Occasion!

Hi, there, readers! This is Gypsy, wishing you all a Happy New Year.  AND, we are celebrating another special occasion today:

Motor Man’s birthday!

So, not only am I here today, but so is my sisfur, Sundae!

Here is my furry favorite picture of Motor Man and me, taken when I was just a tiny little kitten.

Now, I’ve grown up and become his adviser.  We spend lots of time researching ways to make more horsepower. Here we’re discussing our latest findings on the internet.

And now, heeeere’s Sundae!

Hi, efurryone!  This is Sundae, wishing Motor Man a wonderful birthday!  He’s such a smart man: when I first adopted my pawrents and came to live with them, I cried for several days. Motor Mommy was almost at the end of her rope, but Motor Man just said: “We don’t know how long she’s been living in that little cage. Now she has a whole house to explore and get accustomed to.  She’ll be fine.”  And he was right!  Motor Mommy took this picture of us Christmas Day.  Motor Man was asking me what had my attention out the window.

Along with Motor Mommy and Marshall, we’re all wishing a FURRY Happy Birthday to our Motor Man!  We love you!
