Poetic Tuesday: Style

Thursday means time for poetry with our friends, Pam, Teddy and Angel Sammy at Two Spoiled Cats.

Our photo inspiration for this week:

And here’s my poem:

Style

 In the name of fashion, an odd little hat,
a shirtwaist dress, a corset under that.

Button shoes, no comfort there,
perhaps that’s why the solemn stares.

They look so sad, but they were in style;
I hope life gave them reasons to smile.

  1. Oh My Goodness! My first thought was, “I’m glad that I don’t have to wear that everyday-especially the corseted waist.” But they sure were fashionable. As always, you captured the picture in words.

  2. Well done! I found so many interesting things about this photo….the hint of a suppressed grin……what looks like a cellphone (!) in the hand of one of the girls……and those wild umbrellas. It really is fun looking for photos for the poetry challenge! Thanks for having fun with us…………

  3. Great lines !
    They are in-style –
    And probably about to pass out !!

    Thank goodness fashion has changed!! Good poem!

  5. I always wondered why people never smiled in photographs from those eras – perhaps it was the clothes they were bound by?
