Poetic Thursday: Simpler Times

As we always do on Thursday, we’re joining Pam and her kitties, Teddy and Angel Sammy at Two Spoiled Cats for Poetic Thursday. Thanks to them for hosting each week.

This is the photo they provided for our inspiration:

And here’s my poem:

Simpler Times

That was a day we’d never forget:
we got our first ‘television set’.

We all loved to gather in the den
when our favorite shows were about to begin.

It was family time, no cell phones in hand;
hard for kids today to understand.

Black and white, no color back then.
Don’t you wish we could go back again?

The shows were good, the language was clean.
It was unheard of to see something obscene.

They’ll never return; those days are gone,
and now, I rarely turn our tv on.

  1. Those memories that you expressed so well are the best. Made me smile and remember. …And who needed a 60″ screen?

  2. Yes indeed……! Great poem……those days are gone sadly…..

  3. Words of wisdom … it’s like a minefield out there now ..

  4. All so true. It was family time when TV watching.
    Great poem.

  5. Shirley Matthews Dunn

    Loved it and so true.

  6. True words, Dianna! How well I remember those days. As a kid I loved watching television. After college, I even wrote articles about TV shows and interviewed some TV actors when I worked as an arts & entertainment reporter/editor for a daily newspaper. But now I don’t watch TV at all – too vulgar, too violent, too much trash on there.
