His Story…..And My Story

Motor Man sustained an injury this weekend.

His version: “my wife hit me in the eye with a 2-foot aluminum level”.

My version: “I accidentally bumped his elbow. He chose to hit himself in the eye with the level”.

What really happened: Motor Man was hanging a picture for me. (My method is to just “eye it”, hammer in the nail and go. And then, sometimes pull out the nail and start over. Motor Man, being the machinist that he is, measures everything precisely from the beginning.)

He was holding the level to be sure the picture was straight, when I walked by him and accidentally bumped his elbow. This caused him to almost drop the level, and when he caught it, the corner cut a little gash in the area just below his eyebrow. (It’s pretty deep and could probably have used a stitch.)

Honestly, I didn’t even know that I’d bumped his arm. When I realized he was hurt, and that I had caused it, I really did feel awful about it.  Honestly.

I’m sure his version of the event will be told many times to his buddies. And heaven help me if he ends up with a black eye because of this.  But, remember, folks, right here is where you get……the rest of the story.

Now….which version do you believe?

  1. Oh I definately believe you – because that’s the kind of thing I do, not on purpose of course. If your hubby is anything like mine he makes you feel terrible about it and goes on about it for ages lol.
I’m sure he will be fine and you will probably feel worse about it for longer than he will.

  2. There’s something about men that makes them want to all have a great story to tell their buddies … and I can see this being one of them :). I believe you, MJ

  3. By the time JR finishes with that story, he will be in the hospital E.R. and in danger of losing his eye and you would have hit him with a 2×4! And for a few minutes, anyone he tells will believe it!

  4. Well I most certainly believe YOUR story….I have a few similar stories I could tell! My husband’s versions of these tales are usually “embellished” beyond recognition though….typical.

    Pam (and Sam)

  5. Typical, so typical. I know you feel badly. So sorry about the mishap.
Rick is inclined to always give me a hard time about my “sharp” elbows. lol

  6. girl code….i’m with you!!! we have MANY MANY similar stories in our house. 2 people in the same room + witness the same events + the stories are not even close = 2 maried people!!

  7. Yours, of course! I do, however, feel badly for you both!

  8. I wonder how Motor Man is going to embellish this one! So sorry!

  9. HEY, I’M SURE HE DESERVED IT! WALLOP HIM AGAIN! JUST KIDDING—I’M SURE IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, BUT IT WILL BE RETOLD AS YOU ABUSING HIM.

  10. Sorry about Motor Man’s boo-boo. It probably hurt you more than it did him! And I believe your story. I have been in similar scenarios.

  11. Ouch. Poor Motor Man. I’m sure he will have a great time embellishing his story though and of course we all believe your side of the story!

And I hang pictures the same way you do it…by eyeing it, hammering it, hanging it and moving on. Ha! 🙂

  12. Always have to side with the lady’s story. Plus, I hear men go around hitting themselves with levels all the time 🙂

  13. Of course, I believe your story, because his story is exactly the way my hubby would have told it!

  14. At this point, I believe it’s time to call in the only witness to the accident. I’d like to call Miss Sundae to the stand.

  15. the jury’s still out…

  16. Tehehe, love it. Men tend to give women a hard time for being drama queens, but really I think it’s opposite – men are the biggest drama queens! So, of course I believe your version of the story 😉

  17. That’ll show him! Never disagree with how you hang a picture!!

  18. When we got married, I’m pretty sure hubby had it written into the vows that I would never hammer a nail into the wall to hang ANYthing. He and Motor Man share the gift of precision. If that’s a gift…It is, however, a blessing most of the time. I don’t think I’ll vote until I hear Sundae’s side of the story. I have a sewing machine if you’d like to get him stitched up anytime.

  19. Like I said at breakfast: if a person remains level-headed, this sort of thing rarely happens …

  20. How can I follow Marshall’s clever comment? Staying level-headed and leveler free will definitely help avoid this situation in the future!

  21. Sorry Motor Man, we gals stick together.

  22. OMG 🙂 I believe your version. The reason is I have seen and heard these types of things happen in my family (parents, grandparents and us). Besides, there is allways “ther rest of the story” somewhere 🙂

  23. I’ll take your story; we’ve had similar things happen here. A cow hit my husband in the forehead with her head and his eye turned black. Guess who got the blame for that one!

    Just a little love tap.

  25. You and I hang pictures alike – Ritchey and Motor Man hang pictures alike! i think our way is easier!

  26. Totally gotta agree with KKGR above…easier AND safer! 😉

  27. I’m sorry Motor Man was hurt, but I’ve got to say, you told the story, and all versions, in a way that made me smile. I hope he heals quickly. And, I hang pic’s just like you do. I’ve tried measuring, but my eyeballing it and doing it (some times over and over again) seems to work just as well!

  28. I think he likes the attention and TLC he gets after the injury myself! Funny story!

  29. Just goes to show that simplicity is safer that technicality.
