Friday’s Fences And A Happy Update

Today, I’m participating in Friday’s Fences, as I normally do. But my picture is a rerun from Tuesday. And I’m sharing an update on the horse from my Barn Charm post that day.

Many of my readers commented about the condition of this animal’s hooves.  Not being that familiar with horses, I hadn’t even noticed them until I began reading your comments.

Yesterday morning, I took myself down to our county’s animal control office, armed with the above picture.  And I asked that they please check on the welfare of this horse and then call to let me know what the outcome was.

I received a call within an hour or so. The officer said that this is a miniature horse; I didn’t know, and none of my readers was sure.  And, thankfully, (coincidentally) in the time since this photo was taken on March 25, the owners had a farrier come and tend to the hooves. The animal control officer also said this horse is about 30 years old, and that she broke her leg about 10 years ago, resulting in the problem with her hind leg.

The officer said she should be fine, now that the hooves have been trimmed. And since I STILL know nothing about horses, I’m taking her at her word.

Thank you to everyone who expressed concern, especially Pix at Sweet Days Under The Oaks.

Linking up to Friday’s Fences. (Yes, there IS a fence in my picture. Actually, there are two. Can you spot them?)

  1. Oh I just love happy endings! I really had no idea it was a “mature” mini-horse nor did I know when I made a comment about its’ knock-knees that it was due to an injury…..I know zip about horses other than I love them for their beauty and intelligence. It’s great that you cared enough to make sure the horse wasn’t in distress by reporting it – if more people would do that when they have a question in their mind about an animal there would a lot less suffering in the world! Bless you! I hope the little guy is happier with trimmed hooves and a hopefully happy “retirement” on the farm!

  2. I am so glad you did this update! I was really concerned about the hooves because it just didn’t look right! I have seen miniature horses before…but didn’t realize that was what this was! Thank you for caring and reporting back!

  3. ~applause~ Thank you so much for contacting animal control. I’m so pleased that the horse’s hooves have been tended too. Bless it’s heart, it probably suffers aches and pains from it’s leg injury. It’s good it’s been put out to pasture to live out it’s final years.
Sending you a big hug for being such a kind and caring person. You’re a peach, Dianna. 🙂

  4. How amazing this horse survived a broken leg 10 years ago already mature, and how amazing our virtual world read so much in this picture. Your county animal control certainly responded efficiently seeing after her and getting back to you. You made a difference, Dianna.

  5. Good Morning Dianna! And what a GOOD morning it is~I am smiling over the update on this old girl. Hugs to you for that big old kind heart you have! And yep I see two fences! The one in front of the little old girl and the fence in back on both sides of the charming barn.

  6. Way to go Dianne. You are always caring.

  7. I’m so glad you had a quick response. What a relief to know this horse is being taken care of.

  8. this is a very happy post! it was so good of you to check on his welfare…i bet he’s walking around a bit more comfortably now!

  9. Bless your heart for following up on that sweet mini. I’m so glad to know she is being cared for!

  10. This is so amazing! What a remarkable collective effort!! And, I do see the fences…even though the one in the front is practically invisible!

  11. So good of you. I wouldn’t have know either. Another benefit of blogging!

  12. very good. my neighbor’s mini-mules hooves often curve up like that until she can get the farrier to trim. 🙂

  13. There’s nothing quite like completing a story… Especially when it ‘ends’ on a good note! I know nothing about horses, either, but I did notice the hoof and how odd it looked… And I see two fences !

  14. It was good for you to follow through. Sometimes we might hesitate thinking to mind our own business, but I say, better to be safe than sorry.

  15. I am glad it is a happy ending…

  16. Yes, I see two fences! Barely, on the front one. Thanks for checking on this, I think we all feel better now. A 30-year-old miniature horse! Wow.

  17. Just like the kind-hearted Dianna we’ve come to know to have this ol’ guy checked out. Happy to hear it was a good outcome. Thanks for letting us know.

  18. I wanted to tell you that Marshall seems like a very nice and very interesting young man! You mentioned his falconry class, and I think that is wonderful! I’m glad you called the animal control and they checked on the horse. Thank goodness the family trimmed his hooves. You are a kind person for making sure everything was all right.

  19. So glad you had it checked out and there is a happy ending.

  20. Good job to not only see a problem but to followup and get help. It’s always upsetting to see an animal that is lost or not well cared for. And as you found out, sometimes things are not as they seem. But, better to be accused with interference than neglect! Impressive response time from animal control.

  21. That sweet little horse is now happy because of your kindness. 🙂

  22. I missed the first post, but admire your courage to dig a bit deeper when fellow bloggers prompted you. So happy to hear the horse is OK – she’s a beauty!

  23. thanks, for the update. take care. (:

  24. Gerogette, so good of you to check on the welfare of this animal…I know you will sleep better knowing all is well
