Sunrise Saturday

It should come as no surprise to you that my sunrise post this week has yet more pictures from last Sunday on the Outer Banks.

I just can’t help myself. I’m completely smitten with the beach at sunrise.

I’ve never really been a “beach girl”. Never cared a lot for sunbathing.

I can’t swim, so anything more than wading at the shoreline is out of the question.

But, put me in a Jeep on the beach with Motor Man at sunrise, and I’m riding along with my head out the window, taking it all in.

Although I’ve seen too many sunrises to rightfully be called a beach “girl” at this stage of my life, it will just have to be…..

…because “beach woman” just doesn’t have quite the same ring.

  1. You are right about the sunrise at the beach – it is positively addicting! I have even taken vacations specifically for the purpose of getting sunrise on the beaches. Maybe one day, I will get out west and get some sunsets on the beaches of California! These are gorgeous photos…and in my mind, you will always be a girl…so I am perfectly fine with the term “beach girl”!

  2. Beautiful series of pictures Dianna! I can understand your smitten-ness with the beach at sunrise. The beach and ocean have a way of grabbing us “beach girls”!

  3. It’s our southern right to be called ‘girl’ til the day we die. I totally agree. And though I used to be a sunbather, I’ve given that up. It’s just too damaging to the skin, but oh so good for the soul. Looks like you’ve found your ‘soul’ in the sunrises and early morning rides with motor man. And that jeep can take you off road to those special places where the ponies roam. Love it.

  4. I can’t imagine anyone not loving sunrises at the beach…and you know, you’ll ALWAYS be a girl to me!

  5. How absolutely beautiful……no matter how old we may get, I think there’s a part of us that will always be a “beach GIRL” Dianna! It looks incredibly peaceful on the beach at sunrise……you’re so lucky to be able to see that view first thing in the morning………

  6. thanks again, Dianna. Your pictures give this heart a lift. I haven’t been able to get away to the beach but two days back in the spring and I have missed jumping into a nice cool, salty wave on a hot summer day. I can almost feel the ocean spray from your pictures 🙂

  7. What’s not to love? The only thing I can think of is that I am not there. 😉

  8. Definitely go with “girl.” I’m still a girl, heck, in my heart, I’m 9. 🙂 Beautiful photos of a time of day you make me want to get up for,
    MJ

  9. It’s beautiful and it’s partially because you captured it so.

I agree with emjay, you’re a beach girl.

  10. As smitten as I am with sunrises over the lake at our family cabin up north. Beautiful and such a feeling of peacefulness…

  11. they’re just beautiful. i don’t tire of them.

  12. I’m right with you Dianna. I was born a beach girl and will die a beach girl>

  13. I’m a beach girl too much like you. 🙂

  14. Having never been to a beach myself, these photos are something else! I saw the sun coming up through trees this morning.

You asked if I ever sell one of my quilts…I’ve never sold a big quilt, only baby quilts now and then.

  15. I can understand the addiction ! – love the waves crashing in !

  16. As always your photos are awesome:) I love the ocean and I can watch it whether it is cold and windy or nice….year round….we have gone in the winter months before and loved watching the storms…out the windows of the condo we stay in. We will be going to Rockaway Beach for a short visit…we usually stay at Depoe Bay or Gleneden Beach…Rockaway is nice as it has a beautiful beach to walk on and is not as touristry. I would never want to swim in the ocean but I will wade in the surf….love that…and I love walking with WB holding his hand as we walk and talk…and I love the sound of the ocean roaring and the waves either crashing or gently putting me to sleep:)

  17. Fantastic shots! I especially love the last two! It’s always so peaceful to be at the beach when there aren’t a lot of people around, at sunrise or sunset, listening to the gentle sighing of the surf. It’s just wonderful. Glad you had a great vacation!

  18. Another beautiful sunrise! I really appreciate you two getting up so early to share this with us late sleepers.

I am like you Dianna, have never been a beach girl, but I love the beauty, sounds and sights of the rivers and oceans.

  20. Stunning! In the two shots with the gulls, I love the way the super shallow water reflects what’s going on with the sky. Unusual to get so much water in motion….AND water still enough to catch such a reflection in one shot. You are the sunrise/sunset master…so I’m not surprised!
