Treasure Hunting – Another Childhood Memory

Remember the little Trip Journal that I posted about last Wednesday? The antique shop where I found that book seems to be the “shop that keeps on giving”.

During my initial visit there with my friend, Donna, while rummaging through an old jewelry box, I found this key chain.

I remembered these, but hadn’t thought of them in years! I recall my Mom having these miniature license plates on her key chain when I was a child. I thought they were just wonderful: mini license plates, the perfect size for little folks like me to play with. But, my memory isn’t clear enough to recall whether or not Mom actually allowed me to have them. For some reason, I’m thinking not.

I’m guessing that the Disabled American Veterans organization sent these to the registered vehicle owner (probably with a request for a donation). And if Mom were able to scrape together a few dollars to send to DAV for these, she probably wasn’t going to allow them to be used as a toy.

Similar ones are being sold on E-bay these days for around $20 for a matched set of two. As you can see, these don’t match, and I payed much less than that for them. What will I do with them?  Probably stash them away in a drawer. But having them revive that memory from my childhood is worth the few dollars I paid for them.
