My Son Is Just Like Me

Today, I’m participating in Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop and chose this prompt:

1.) The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…how is your child just like you?

Marshall is just like me: we both like cats, and we have from a very early age. Bandit helped welcome Marshall home from the hospital as a newborn, and they were good friends for many years.

Marshall is just like me:  we both have a knack for spotting typos and misspelled words. We both did well in grammar and English in school, but struggled with math.

Marshall is just like me: we both like the same music. During his adolescent/early teen years, he listened to hard rock. Then one day, he said: “Mom, did you ever listen to The Beatles?”.  And I breathed a sigh of relief, because he had discovered oldies.

These days, Marshall has a vintage record player and a large collection of old 45 rpm records and LP’s. He’s always happy to demonstrate the record player.  “Older” folks are amazed to see one still in use, and those of the younger generation can’t believe that’s the way we used to listen to music.

Marshall is just like me: we both have such a deep love for Bacon’s Castle. We’re amazed by its beauty, its history and our family connection to this wonderful old house.

Yes, my son is just like me (in many respects). And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  14. I love the old picture of Marshall and his cat! I never really though either of my boys were like me but on Adam’s birthday (just a couple of days ago) his girlfriend pointed out how much he’s just like me! They weren’t all good traits, but they were mine! Unlike you two…we can’t spell. We are good in math and science! Did you catch any errors?

You both are special people and share so much together. I love that. It could not be any other way, you both come from wonderful stock. Also I am happy I can supply you typos, bad spelling and in correct English, not good in English but better in math and history 🙂

  20. I am hopeful that my son will end up liking the same music as me, but my husband’s influence is strong at this point. Great post!

  21. Two very special, blessed people.

  22. I’m glad to hear he got your sense of humor, too. 🙂 I love that he always comments on your blog.
