There’s a new winery in town. Actually, it’s about 45 minutes from us, but it’s in the general area where I grew up and attended school.
Motor Man and I don’t drink and have never drunk. So why would the two of us ever visit a winery?
Several reasons:
The winery boasts the tallest “goat tower” in the world, 35 feet tall. Who knew that goats even climbed towers? As we drove into the parking lot last weekend, a goat was looking out the window of the tower, but before I could jump out of the vehicle and get in position for a picture, he’d already run down those steps. Sadly, I didn’t get another photo op with the goats.
Our reason for visiting the winery this particular weekend was that there was to be a Hot Air Balloon festival. We know a guy who owns a hot air balloon company: you may recall that we helped him and his crew launch the balloon one morning a couple of years ago. He and Motor Man were in touch last week, and we scheduled a ride for the two of us and our friend, Donna, who was also planning to attend the festival.
Sadly, the wind was too strong that evening for the balloons to fly, then rain canceled all flights for the remainder of the weekend.
But, even though we don’t drink, and there were no balloon rides, it was still a fun evening. Motor Man and Donna shared a laugh. Well, maybe more than one.
Then, she took some photos of Motor Man and me. I borrowed a bottle of wine as a “prop”.
And we had a little fun with the photo session.
Who needs wine?
See? It is possible for teetotalers to have a good time at a winery.
~These Days Of Mine~
OMG, it was fun wasn’t it. The excitement of were we going up or not? Then the balloonist says he will be going up to 5000 feet so he can see the river ( what river, the Mississippi? ???) Our anxiety increases. Then they announce decision not to fly, and I think we got the giggles. Day was beautiful. Winery nice with lake, weeping willow, nice day with friends, whether or not we defied death!
You two (or in this case three!) have fun no matter where you go or what you’re planning to do……even when things don’t go QUITE as you planned, you make the best of it and have a blast – and that definitely does NOT require wine!

I have a photo of one of the goats in the highest windows. I think I posted it on facebook after the winery’s Grand Opening last month. They love to climb; after all their natural habitat is in the mountainous regions, and if you ever see them in a petting zoo, there is always at least one on top of a shelter.
It was good to see you at the event! Even though no balloons went up, it appeared that fun was had by all who attended. I know those who were to fly were disappointed but it’s a proven fact that we humans don’t control the weather. I’ll have to send you some pictures I have of the goats climbing the tower.
“Goat tower?” I’ve never heard of such a thing! Great pictures, Dianna…I’m glad you had fun.
I’ve never heard of a goat tower either, but it’s definitely an improvement over car hoods! I’ve seen friends leave their car hood up so the goats couldn’t climb on it – WHEW!!! Now, I knew there was a good reason why I don’t have goats. And you’re right – good time – no wine required!
Wine and goats I’ve seen before. I can’t wait to see you go up in a balloon!
Goats def like to climb. Check this story out from CBS
Thanks for sharing that – so interesting!
Didn’t somebody once say that Motor Man can be the drunkest sober person ever ??!! Who needs to drink, right ??
Now to watch the clip …………..
Sounds like another fun filled adventure of love and laughter. 🙂
When you are with friends that make you laugh, the view is pretty, and the day is beautiful… that’s all you need. Wine is nice but you sure don’t need it… 🙂
I have never heard of a goat tower! Sounds like you had a grand day though and now I want to go to our beer brewery here that has just been taken over by Annehauser Busch (sp?). It’s called The Devil’s Backbone. 🙂
I think you will have to go back again to see the goats in the tower. Lovely story.
Sounds like me! I don’t drink but I’ve toured several wineries. They often have great scenery!
Looks like it was lots of fun even though there wasn’t a balloon ride. And I’ve never figured out why people think we teetotalers (yep, hubby and I are too) can’t have fun.
I’m glad you still had a great time. 😀 That would have been cool to see a goat peeking out the window. Teetotalers have more fun, and they can remember it the next morning! 😉
