Random Five Friday

Five random thoughts to start of the month of May:

1.) Remember the carved LOVE sign that Motor Man and I happened upon a few weeks ago?  We now know its permanent location. It was placed near the Chesapeake, Virginia courthouse. Motor Man was watching a local tv station recently and caught a glimpse of it just before a commercial break. So I contacted the station to ask the location. Of course, we had to stop for a visit the next time we were in the area. We didn’t have the tripod with us, and no one else was around, so we did the next best thing…

…took pictures of each other. (I love this one of my Motor Man).

2.) Earlier in the week, one of the “duck couples” who frequents our yard brought us a surprise: 12 adorable ducklings. Sadly, a couple of days later, the parents returned with only four. And the past couple of days, the adults have visited…with no babies. There are just two many predators for those sweet little ones to survive.

3.) Plant shopping for the season has begun. I always forget what a chore it is to keep everything watered when the heat of summer arrives. Earlier this week, I discovered this beautiful petunia; I’ve never seen the variegated foliage variety.

4.) Last weekend, Motor Man and I attended a multi-year class reunion for the school I attended. There were probably around 200 people there, and it was really a fun time. Next month, we plan to attend a reunion for his class.

5.) This weekend, there’s a HUGE vintage market just outside of town.  My friend, Donna, and are planning to attend. We love shopping for vintage treasures, and the weather looks to be perfect.

Happy first weekend of May!

  1. Wonderful pics! Love the LOVE pics, what an artist’. Your flowers are so pretty, good luck! Devastated to hear about the babies, cruel world and survival of the fittest are apt words indeed.Good weekend. Looking forward to the Vintage Fair and Smithfield Stroll with my good friend. 😊

  2. The LOVE pictures are great – especially the reunion on of you and Motor Man! Those poor ducklings…but what a sweet picture. Enjoy the Vintage Fair – I’d like to get there….someday! 🙂

  3. Love those pics and that last one even has a smile from your sweet Motor Man! Sorry about the babies—been waiting to see if our couple has any but so far haven’t seen any goslings or duckings at all this spring. We have huge snapping turtles in the lake that gobble them up I am afraid. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. I love the pic of you and your husband. Great smile!
I’ve tracked down a couple of those signs myself. This looks like a cool one. Maybe I will have to come visit. 😉

  5. The artist who did the LOVE sign sure did a great job and now you know where it’s “living” permanently! Love all the photos. Makes me sad about the ducklings but nature doesn’t always let us have things our way.

    Hugs, Pam

  6. Maybe the best LOVE sign I’ve seen ..
I’m sorry to hear about the ducklings.. too many predators ..
Planting time is definitely here !
Great pic from the reunion !
Hopefully folks will remember to hit Main Street while they’re in the area !

I was thrilled to hear the Love Sign is so close to us. Will be visiting soon. So sad to hear about the babies. Yes the reunion was fun and I really enjoyed it. You and Donna enjoy Saturday. ❤

  8. 1) The Love sign is gorgeous. I’m glad it finally has a home. You and MM have such fun with adventures and photos.
2)Aw such a sweet picture of the duck family. It’s a shame that the babies didn’t survive. The circle-of-life is so disheartening sometimes.
3)That’s beautiful petunias. Off-hand, I don’t recall ever seeing varigated petunia foliage either. I’m glad you got this jewel.
4)The reunion sounds like it was enjoyable. You and MM are such a sweet couple. Your love shines through in your photo.
5)I hope you and Donna have clear weather and a fun time shopping.
Happy first weekend in May to you too.

  9. I’ve seen that too with ducklings. I noticed once that both parents left the babies alone and the next day they were gone.

  10. I’m behind in my blog reading as we were away for a few days and I didn’t go online during that time. Trying to catch up today. I can see why you love the photo of MM – cute pose! Sad about the ducklings. 😦
