I have a public service announcement:
Today is… (drum roll) Squirrel Appreciation Day. Who knew?
I can’t say that I have ever actually “appreciated” squirrels. Mostly, they annoy me by clearing out our bird feeders in record time. But, I must admit, there have been times that squirrels have been rather entertaining.
So in honor of this special day, I thought I’d share a few of the amusing photos I’ve taken over the years of “our” squirrels.
Must be a mommy-to-be squirrel, gathering material (from my flower planter) for her nest.
I have yet to find a feeder that’s any match for a hungry squirrel. And, seriously: aren’t they ALWAYS hungry?
Do you think that bird bath is large enough to satisfy your thirst?
Obtaining food is apparently good squirrel exercise. S-t-r-e-t-c-h.
And, how can you not just laugh at this? It’s free entertainment from our kitchen window.
Aw, how sweet; all curled up for a nap. Must have finally gotten a tummy full at the bird feeders.
So, even though I can’t say that I appreciate them, the bird squirrel feeders are full and waiting.
Are you celebrating??
~These Days Of Mine~
Great photos. I love squirrels – I really have no problem with them helping themselves to our bird feeders because the birds definitely get “equal time”. They’re fun to watch and we worry as much about them in this kind of weather as we do all of God’s critters. Happy to help out! Love that photo especially of the squirrel in the plant pot.

They are so cute, the best one is the acrobat behing your kitchen window.
Oh yes–the story of my life. Beth Ann 0 Squirrels 1,000,000 at least. But they are fun to watch.
they are so cute, i do appreciate watching them play
This put a smile on my face!!!! So very cute! Loved it!!!
My husband said “REALLY”? He does battle with the squirrels over the bird feeders here also. But, the feeders are freshly filled this morning and ready for anything! Just saw a gathering of red-winged black birds, cardinals, and goldfinches. I LOVE watching the birds too. Your pics made me laugh out loud!
They are cute and fun to watch, but annoying when they steal the birds’ feed. I don’t see many squirrels in our yard but that’s because we don’t have many trees, but a little bunny has been frequenting our front porch leaving his tracks in the snow. Not sure what he’s looking for there!
Love all your squirrel pictures. I have to admit Chuck and I love our squirrels and enjoy watching them. ♥️
I had no idea this day existed .. But you have the perfect pics to celebrate !
I hadn’t realized Squirrels had an appreciation day. You did an awesome job of paying them fit tribute with their fun antics. Great photos, they’re so cute, especially the napping one, aw so sweet.
One at a time is ok… three or four becomes a nuisances! Great shots!
