…We got a thing goin’ on…
My favorite hanging plants for our front porch are ivy-leaf geraniums.
Not long after I purchased these and put them in place a few weeks ago, I disturbed a tiny bird one day when I took this one down to water it.
And, boy, did I get a scolding. From Mrs. Wren.
I have attempted to water the plant from the opposite side as her nest, but I always seem to forget which side she has occupied. (Note to self: mark the flowerpot.)
So while I had the plant off the hanger (and Mrs. Wren was a few feet away, giving me “what for”), I snapped a quick picture. It isn’t very good, but there appear to be several tiny eggs in her little cylindrical nest.
So… although I didn’t spend nearly $30 for a plant for Mrs. Wren’s summer home, I’m going to do everything possible in the future to keep from disturbing her.

Sweet! We always have a wren wanting to build a new on our door wreath OR in the fern on the front porch. I keep them from doing the door wreath because it’s opening and closing all the time but they can use my fern or other plants on the front porch because I just LOVE watching them!

Awww, wrens are my favorite of the smaller birds. She picked out a lovely location with beautiful curb appeal. It’s going to be so much fun watching Mrs. Wren and her family. I’d take her little bit of cranky/plucky personality over the Phoebe who builds a muddy messy nest and can’t say fee-bee, fee-bee enough all day long. Thinking about our birds in MO.

AWWW – ever the protective Mom, Mrs. Wren. Don’t you just love the pleasant surprises we find in our shared plants?
They do have a mind of their own about were to build a nest. We have them trying to build nest under our outdoor foyer. Boy, do they make a mess.
Mrs. Wren has found a kind and loving landlady.
Wrens tend to nest in the same place year after year, so you might want to put a wren house under your eaves. They also have more than one brood per year. They are wonderful birds – and better than watchdogs !
How nice, I hope that you will get to see the family when they hatch.
Amazing that she would built her nest in a hanging flower pot. Which predator would think to look there for a little snack? Smart little mommy! 🙂

Mrs. Wren might be small but she’s mighty when it comes to her babies!
