Poetic Thursday: Recess

Thursday means poetry here at These Days. Each week, we join Pam and her kitties, Teddy and Angel Sammy, at Two Spoiled Cats for Poetic Thursday.

Last week, we were provided this photo for our inspiration:

Here’s my poem:

On The Playground

Seesaws, merry-go-rounds, and that enormous slide;
we just couldn’t wait to go outside.

The bell rang for recess, it was time to play,
the favorite part of every school day.

The playground was full, there were kids everywhere.
one of life’s lessons: we learned to play fair.

Some of us were popular, others were teased;
we scraped our elbows and skinned our knees.

The bell rang again, it was back to class.
Recess time always went by too fast.

  1. As a teacher, I agree- it goes way too fast )

  2. As another teacher/librarian, I agree. Such a timely subject. I’m back to school Monday – ready for those darlings who can’t wait for recess. You captured the many facets of playground life.

  3. I think recess was just about everyone’s favorite time ! Thanks for playing poetry with us…….

    You describe recess just like I remember. Good memories most of the time.

  5. Always looked forward to recess – and as you described so well in your poem, it went so fast …. I can’t imagine any playground nowadays having a slide this epic ….
