11 Years A Blogger

Eleven years ago today, I published my first blog post. You can find it here.

From the first idea I had of becoming a blogger, I knew two things:
1.) That my inaugural post would be about Bacon’s Castle
2.) That my blog wouldn’t have a theme. My posts would just be random, thus “These Days Of Mine” seemed a good title.

Looking back, I’m quite surprised that I was able to figure out how to set up a blog site. Motor Man has said more than once that he fully expected the computer to be sent flying through a window at any moment during that whole process.

In the beginning, I published a blog post every day. Seven days a week.  Mondays and Wednesdays, I posted about ‘whatever’. On Tuesdays, I participated in Barn Charm, on Thursdays, I chose a prompt from Mama Kat’s Writers’ Workshop and wrote about that, and on Fridays, I closed out the week with Friday’s Fences. Sunrise Saturday and Sunset Sunday took care of the weekends.

But soon, blogging every day began to feel like a chore, so I dropped back to just weekdays, and now I blog on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Here are a few stats:

Currently, 1331 readers are subscribed to my blog.
“These Days Of Mine” has had over 449,000 views
There have been over 165,000 visitors to my blog
And more than 36,000 comments have been left by my readers

It’s hard to choose, but I think this may be my personal favorite post: Where I’m From

And this post had the most views at 9,563: Street Rods, Part 2, Rat Rods

I’ve come to know many wonderful bloggers, and remain Facebook friends with many of them. Several I’ve met in person, including those from my home state of Virginia, as well as Alaska, Pennsylvania, Texas, North Carolina and Michigan.

So thank you to all of you who follow my blog,  like my posts, comment on the blog or on the Facebook link and to those of you who just quietly stop by to see what’s happening here at These Days Of Mine.

Hoping for at least eleven more.

  1. Congratulations on your 11th anniversary of These Days of Mine. Your blog is top on my list of site visits each day. I’ve enjoyed them all, but I think one of my favorites is yours too. We share a lot of commonality in that blog. Looking forward to the next 11 years!

  2. Congratulations on your 11 year anniversary with the blog. I too have made a lot of friends and enjoyed writing and being creative in that way. Here’s to many more blogging years for These Days of Mine!

  3. Thank you for blogging. I look forward to them each day. I especially enjoy your poems and I think you should seriously consider publishing a book of them. Have a Happy Day!

  4. I am speechless. “Where I am From” is an incredible piece. It brought back so many memories to me. You are a truly talented writer and express yourself so creatively. The world would have lost some thing if you had not decided to become a blogger. Happy 11th anniversary!!!!

  5. Happy Blogiversary! I just completed my 11th year in July. At first, I blogged almost every day too, but that got to be just too much. All these years later and being retired, I actually have more free time, yet I only post on Tuesdays and Wednesdays now. Go figure. I’m so very happy that our blogging paths crossed years ago and that we got to meet in person! (You forgot to mention Pennsylvania in that list of states from which you met fellow bloggers.) Anyway, here’s to another 11 and more!!

  6. Love your blog – 11 years is an amazing accomplishment and ZI like the fact that you have tailored your blogging to work with your life!! Wishing you another 11 years!!!

I remember the times we kept our eyes peeled for old barns and fences
I also remember talking about how interesting it was that the rat rod was your most-viewed post – I guess there’s just something about that first pic …

I’m also glad you started with poetry on Thursdays .. ; )
