A Sunrise, Horses And Sippy Holes

Motor Man and I took a quick trip to the Outer Banks this weekend. And, not surprisingly, we ended up out on the beach at sunrise yesterday morning.

We saw over thirty horses, but the skies were a bit overcast, so it wasn’t the best day for taking pictures. I loved this little one with the dunes and sunrise behind him.

And this one, having her Cheerios sea oats for breakfast.

Motor Man waited patiently while I took photos.

Oops. Seems we got a little close to some shrubbery trying to make it through around a “sippy hole”. (Motor Man introduced me to that term, taken from Swamp Buggy racing.) To see a sippy hole and what happened when someone DIDN’T make it through, see this post.

And then, what I always hope to see: horses actually ON the beach.

Our “wild horse tour” cost us less than $8.00 an hour in gas.

Big spenders, we are, and it was worth every penny.

  10. Those are such good pictures and our Mom loves horses and has two miniature donkeys right now. Where were these horses? Are they the wild Chincoteague ponies in N.C?? I think that is where they are. Anyway, what fun to see them.

Thanks for the quick trip to the OBX. The pictures are great. Happy Labor Day.

  18. Two of my favorite things – wild horses and the beach! Looks like you had them to yourself too, which is never a bad thing.

  19. Inexpensive entertainment, I’d say, for something you enjoy so much. I hope Motor Man put the beach flora back where it belonged! LOL
