Random Five Friday

Friday again, and time for five random thoughts:

1.) It’s a rainy, breezy Friday for us, as a mini coastal storm moves through our area. But the weather folks are predicting guessing that we’ll have a nice weekend.

2.) For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been busy visiting every nearby nursery/greenhouse/home improvement center in search of plants.  I should know better than to think I’m not going to do a lot of planting once spring arrives, because I always do.  I still haven’t found any Black-eyed Susan vines, yet; I’m guessing it’s too early in the season.

3.) Since I couldn’t find hanging baskets to my liking this spring, I bought geraniums and bacopa and planted my own last weekend.  Yesterday afternoon, I went out to put all the porch plants on the ground, so they could get rain water. And saw this:

Here’s a close-up:

Apparently Mr./Ms. Squirrel decided to shimmy up the chain of the porch swing and dig a crater in the hanging basket. What a mess. At least he/she didn’t disturb the plants. That will probably happen on their next trip.

4.) Speaking of critters, Tuesday afternoon, I was walking around the yard taking pictures during the “golden hour”, and spotted this deer, all cozy in the edge of the marsh grass. He definitely spotted me, too.

5.) And, finally, something very different here on my blog.  I’m posting photos of a couple, hoping that just maybe someone reading this will recognize them.  A camera was recently found in a body of water not far from us, and turned over to the sheriff’s department.  Amazingly, the authorities were able to download the photos from the SD card. (These pictures were shared on the sheriff’s department’s Facebook page and in our local paper.) I realize this is a long shot, but I know how distressed I would be to lose my camera and pictures.  So, if you know these folks, let me know, and we’ll get their camera and photos returned to them.

  1. Are you sure it was a squirrel in that potted plant and not a bird looking for a great nesting site? I’m sure you’re right though – a bird would at least be a bit more NEAT about it. Interesting about the camera and photos – hopefully the “owner” will be found!

  2. I always enjoy your deer spotting photos, Dianna. We’ve had cooler than normal weather as well, but looking forward to some beautiful weather this weekend.

  3. So glad your blogging break was short. I look forward to all your notes but particularly Friday’s Randomness.

  4. Mom is starting to beautify our deck too. Every time she goes out just about she comes home with more plants. Have a great day.

  5. We’ve had an ‘infestation’ of squirrels lately too. They keep robbing our bird feeders! We didn’t think they’d be able to shimmy up a vinyl wrapped post, but………… So enjoyed your randomness! Hope the couple is located so they can get their treasures back.

  6. Exactly why I am not eager to do potted plants anymore. The squirrels dug up all my potted petunias last year. I just did ferns this year and some impatiens. Love your porch swing.

  7. Your porch looks very cozy – but whomever messed up your plants needs a spanking!

Hope the photos are returned to their owners ~ how kind of you to try and help 🙂 MJ

  8. awww. hope those folks can be found and have their photos returned to them.

  9. Maybe somebody out there will recognize them- I’d hate to lose pics, too..
And the angle you chose for the porch/potted plant pic looks like it could be a shot from an old plantation home ; )

  10. Tee! Hee! Those squirrels is pests!

Dreary day here in VA Beach too but looking forward to a good weekend. Our squirrels love to hide peanuts in my flower pots so I have no doubt they LOVE your yard! I too love the pictures of the deer just lovely. The lost camera has been all over the news sure hope the people are found.

  12. I hope you find the owner of the camera, this is such a sweet thing to do, sending the wish for the owners being found ‘into the universe’ is your good deed for the week or month!
I love the bright pink geranium basket and was dismayed at the squirrel’s digging!
I like the idea of deer being so close to your home, I go out and want to look closer to my good friends’ deer in the woods, while she follows me and ‘ruins’ it by pounding on a tin plate! She is afraid they will come closer and eat the fish and frogs in her little pond by her deck. Deer look innocent but they can also strip plants. I hope you find the black eyed Susan vines, which I had not heard of before. Always enjoy learning something new. Our day has been sunny and 67 degrees. Perfect for a walk and talk with my friend, while her husband is working on their lawn. We had single scoop of salty caramel pretzel ice cream in bowls for only $2.75 at a place in our downtown. Exercise off calories to add some more! ha ha!

  13. As always, your randoms are so special. I love the deer hiding in the brush but knowing you see her. I wish I knew the couple of the lost camera though. That was sweet of you to post the photos retrieved from it. And of course squirrels will be squirrels right? Dag Nabbit! 🙂

  14. I can’t imagine losing my camera. I hope the folks can be located.
