Random Five Friday

My first “official” Random Five of the summer:

1.) I’m sure most of us have certain dates that stand out for us each year – those dates other than birthdays, anniversaries, etc.  One such date for me is June 26.  That was the date we brought 10-day old Marshall home from the hospital. (Because of some health issues of mine, he was born prematurely, then had some health concerns of his own.)  So even though his birthday is June 16,  this mama also remembers June 26 as a special day. Sigh.

2.) Recently, I put out corn for the ducks in a repurposed Cool Whip container.  Something apparently scared them away before they finished eating, and I looked out later to see this: a squirrel smorgasboard for one.

3.) I don’t recall exactly what year I planted petunias in a container out in the old wooden boat we have in our side yard….last year? Perhaps the year before? Wednesday evening, I was out taking pictures of the sunset and happened to look over at the boat. I just love it when plants surprise me.

4.) And here’s the sunset I was capturing – SOOC (straight out of the camera).

5.) This weekend is our town’s “Olden Days” celebration. I wrote about it previously in this post.  Sadly, there’s a good chance of rain for tonight’s and  tomorrow’s activities. Perhaps the weather folks will be mistaken, and we’ll all have a nice surprise.

Do you have weekend plans? Are they threatened by bad weather?

  1. June 26th is in my “memory book” too…..my sister’s birthday is today, and my first marriage wedding day to name a couple of items. Love the sunset photo – just so peaceful. I love how petunias self-seed and surprise me every single year – they pop up in the most delightful spots! They always make me smile.

  2. It’s amazing how quickly years have come and gone since that first memorable June 26! And look at your handsome son now!
    Lovely pictures as always!

  3. Amazing sunset, Dianna!

  4. Oh that picture of you and Marshal is so precious – what a little darling he was! And I loved your SOOC sunset picture – wonderful! Happy Friday 🙂 MJ

  5. Yes, I did/do have plans with a very special friend. Rock and roll, see where ghost stories originate and spotlight vandals of the wildlife kind on the river…..and that was just the first couple of hours. But alas Mother Nature has determined this redhead is not to hear live music this summer! 3″ last 24 hours and another round headed…Dianna like your second home birthday for Marshall, and as always your pictures are stellar! We will create our own music and ghostly walk on a better weekend. I do have some pretty scary campfire stories from girl scout days.

  6. Such a special memory, bringing Marshall home from the hospital. And, now he’s all grown and so handsome. I know you are so proud of him.
The squirrel munching on the duck’s food … that’s so cute. Little squirrel was hungry, I bet.

  7. Your Random Fives this time are truly heartwarming…. taking Marshall home, the surprise petunia and the wonderful sunset. I love the squirrel too – but the poor ducks! 🙂 Love this post. Dianna, “you ROCK!”

  8. Happy Birthday to Marshall! Mine is coming up too. Good things happen in June! Dang squirrels! Always looking to steal food. Miss the sunsets. Thanks for sharing. I too hope our rainy forecast is wrong. We’re going to see the Tall Ships in Philly tomorrow.

It just shows nothing stops Marshall. He is a handsome and nice young man. Oh well, squirrels need to eat too. The sunset is lovely.

  10. What a special day!!! Love the sunset. My vinca always blesses me with reseeds.

  11. This belated comment is from Olden Days, downtown Smithfield ….
Great summer R5F – Olden Days is jumping – not a parking space left in town !
    I’m sorry I missed the post yesterday – since it was a big day … : )
The flowers are looking great !

  12. What a great picture of you and Marshall. A treasure!

  13. That sunset is absolutely stunning! And you know how I love sunsets. 🙂 (And your random Five Fridays, even though I’m late in reading this!)

  14. Gorgeous sunset. Ornery squirrel! Marshall was a teeny tiny baby. I love flower surprises, too.
