Not On My List

Although I’m not exactly sure why, I occasionally receive a Hammacher Schlemmer catalog in the mail. Especially at this time of year. I don’t recall ever ordering anything from that company, so apparently they bought/were given my name by another retailer.

As I was looking through the catalog last week, I came across a couple of items that I found a bit unbelievable.

The first is a hippo sofa:

Did you catch the price on that?  $95,000.  Ninety five THOUSAND dollars. After reading about this item, I have two questions: 1,) WHO would buy this? And 2.) HOW many of these have been/will be sold?

The second item that caught my eye is this selfie toaster:

Hmmm. Well, the price is much more reasonable than a $95,000 hippo sofa, but why would you want toast in your (or someone else’s) image?   Wouldn’t it feel strange to munch on your (or a loved one’s) face, all buttered up – and perhaps slathered with grape jam? And again, I wonder: how many of these will actually be sold?

So, how about you?  Would you order either of these items? And if so, whose image would be on the toast?

  1. I can’t think of any reason to want a selfie toaster I certainly would not want my friends and family smothered in butter. Of course the couch made me think of the song “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas” but like most of us I think I’d rather see them walking around.

  2. REALLY??? I have to say that my imagination has been stretched this morning. Items that I’ve never imagined – and can’t imagine who would buy either one. Makes me wonder if the catalog has any ‘normal’ gifts.

  3. We get their catalog too and certainly DID notice the hippo sofa and its’ price tag. Amazing that there IS such a thing much less that anyone would have the $$ to buy it! That catalog always has a number of outrageous things in it – “tis the season” (for a hippo couch????!!!!!).

  4. This is BEYOND funny!! You are so hilarious!!

  5. Maybe you put somebody’s picture on there that you don’t like. Chew him/her up and spit them out!

  6. Oh my word, a selfie toaster…that’s crazy! I think I’ll pass on both gifts.

  7. Sing it now, ‘Oh, I want a hippopotamus for Christmas…’. Okay, all better now. Gotta say, the sofa is disturbing, but I know someone who would like the toaster!

  8. I would have to pass on both! A selfie toaster… crazy!
I am happy when Santa delivers our box of eggnog creams from Fannie May Candies!

  9. Come on, Mom .. all I want for Christmas is a Hippopotamus Sofa !
Not really – it looks like it could be the most uncomfortable seat ever made ..!

  10. I may be a bit silly, but I love the hippo sofa!
And loathe the selfie toaster. Creepy.

I have to agree with Marshall, no way on either item!! Too funny!

  12. I’ll pass on both items. Apparently some folks have more money than they know what to do with! LOL

  13. LOL–$95,000 seems a bit pricey for the hippo sofa. I’m going to wait until it goes on clearance. 🙂

  14. Okay, now I can say I really HAVE seen everything! A hippo sofa? No thank you. Doesn’t fit my decor OR my budget! 😉 And a selfie toaster….I only have one huge question – WHY? It amazes me though (and kind of sickens me at the same time) what people will spend money on.
