Poetic Thursday: The Looking Glass

How quickly Thursday comes around! It’s time again for poetry with Pam and her boys at Two Spoiled Cats. Thanks for hosting each week, Pam.

This was the cute photo we were given last week for our inspiration:

And here’s my poem:

The Looking Glass

Lipstick, ponytails and a looking glass,
oh, little girl, don’t grow up too fast.

Who is that image that you see?
Is she fifteen or is she three?

Today, you have dolls and toys.
In time, your mind will be on boys.

Then soon will come the day
when all the toys are packed away.

It will be time  for grown-up things:
dances and dates, an engagement ring.

Your image in the mirror then:
a young lady where a child had been.

  1. Sweet poem and it does happen quickly doesn’t it……from little boy or girl to teen to “Mom I’ve met THE ONE”…….all part of the cycle of life but lots of fun to see. Thanks for joining us every week!

  2. Love it! And it makes me think of my three granddaughters who will grow up way too quickly. 😦

  3. this reminds me of a few classic songs from the 50s/60s … I suppose that should come as no surprise ! ; )

It’s a great poem for this sweet picture.

  5. And doesn’t it happen oh so quickly? Even quicker with the grandgirls than the daughters. Nostalgia all over that poem.
