Sweet Sophia

About a year and a half ago, we stopped at a gift shop one day on our way to the Outer Banks.

It’s a neat little shop; a mix of gift items and antiques. But what first caught my eye wasn’t any of that. It was Sophia:

The owner of the shop told me that she had mentioned to a friend who worked at the animal shelter that she was looking for a shop cat. And apparently Sophia had somehow gotten left behind when her owners evacuated as a hurricane approached. That story just breaks my heart.

But Sophia has found a loving home, and almost every time we’re in the area, we stop by to visit her. Even Motor Man goes in to see her.

But there’s one thing you have to be careful of if you’re holding Sophia:  she drools when she’s happy.

I’m happy when I visit Sophia.

But I try not to drool on her.

Footnote: Today I e-mailed the owner of Sophia’s shop to ask permission to link her web-site to this blog post. Sadly, she has closed the shop, but Sophia is enjoying being a home-kitty now. We’ll miss going by to visit her, but wish her a happy retirement!

  1. Maybe she’s teething? lol!

    That is a sweet story!

  2. I can tell…you need a cat in your life!! Nice story.

  3. If drool is any indication, I’d say she’s fairly happy in the fourth pic down…..

  4. OK Diane. It’s time to get your own kitty. You won’t have to drive all over creation to pet other peoples cats! Not that you wouldn’t still stop in for a kitty hug if you were in the area.

I have had cats that drool. I am happy that my Satchel does not. This cat looks a lot like my sister, Lou’s, and he drool all over the place too!! I agree, you do need a cat!!
