My Facebook Profile Pic

For Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop today, I chose this prompt:
4.) Share the story behind your current Facebook and/or Twitter profile photo.

This is my current Facebook profile picture:

My son, Marshall, took this picture of my niece, Donna, and me during her visit last month. Actually it was the last night she was here; the following morning, she returned home to Texas.

Donna was born when I was eight years old, so she’s always seemed more like a younger sister than a niece.

She now lives entirely too far away, and usually visits once a year. But we pack a lot into those few days that she and her son, Connor, are here.

A few days after her most recent visit, I was missing her, so I made this my profile picture on Facebook.

  1. What a nice picture! You look like sisters too. And I remember reading about Connor and seeing his joyful face, so its nice to see his mom.

  2. What a great photo of two happy girls! I’m so glad you had a happy visit with her and Connor. It’s always nice to catch up with people we love but don’t often get to see.

  3. Your niece has a beautiful wide Texas smile! I’m sure you’ll be planning a trip down to see her and Connor soon…

  4. Their trips are too few and far apart.

  5. What a nice picture of you both; treasure those moments, as I know you do 🙂 MJ

  6. You two look so happy. It’s a shame you don’t live closer together. Donna sounds like a delightful lady, just like her Aunt Dianna. 🙂

  7. Connor will remember those trips to VA and the people who love him. Travel is a wonderful gift to give a young one.

  8. What a wonderful picture of two beautiful ladies! I was 10 when my niece Lynne was born and she always was like a younger sister to me too. Just one more thing we “Birthday Twins” share in common!

  9. This is a lovely picture with many happy memories attached to it. You both look so happy to be together.

  10. Such a pretty and happy shot! Love your necklace!

  11. Great picture of you both.
I totally get the “entirely too far away” deal. 😦
Glad you have at least once a year and if you’re anything like me the before, during and after moments are made even more precious given the miles in between! (Does that make sense?)
    Have a great day.

  12. Aww, that’s so sweet. I love that you make an effort to get together once a year despite the distance. I hope to have that same kind of relationship with all 3 of my nephews one day 🙂

  13. Always great times when they’re here … and I think it shows in this picture! Trips are too few and far between, but we do pack it in during those days!

  14. i have a nephew like that – grew up with him more as a little brother as he was only 6 yrs younger than me. 🙂

  15. It’s a nice photo; you both look happy. I love profile pics that have a purpose.

  16. You both look so pretty and happy, too! It’s wonderful that you can get together and share good times.
    Have a great day!

  17. What a sweet story behind your picture! I hate when the family you can enjoy the most with lives too far away!

  18. What a lovely happy picture. It’s a real pity you don’t live closer.

Your niece is lovely and your nephew is too cute. I love the pictures of the two of you.

  20. We do pack a lot in to our visits, that’s true. But the funny thing about that is I personally find our visits very relaxing. I don’t know if it’s because it’s coming home for me, or the beautiful house and setting we stay in or more than likely, it’s because we are surrounded by people we love so much !
    We miss you too!

  21. Nice picture, Dianna.
