It’s hard to believe that it’s time again for R5F. Here are this week’s thoughts:
1.) Tuesday morning was a little foggy out on the river….just enough to make for interesting photos.
2.) Tuesday evening, Motor Man and I were coming home from dinner and errands in Newport News. We were on the James River Bridge at sunset, and I had, uncharacteristically, left my camera at home. I attempted a picture with my cell phone. When I uploaded it to my computer, I was amazed at just how bright the sun is in this picture.
3.) Seven years ago, six years ago and two years ago, we had weddings in our yard. The first was in August, and the second two in September; in fact, THIS week in September. Between the dry weather and the damage by the deer, our yard is in sad shape this year. I’m relieved we aren’t hosting a major event.
4.) Each week, Motor Man and I take Motor Mum out to dinner at a local restaurant that’s just been open a few months. It’s called Wharf Hill Brewery, and is in a building that dates to 1906 and was once home to a funeral parlor. The food is delicious (fried green tomatoes: yum!), and we love the atmosphere.
5.) Antiquing (and perhaps lunch?) tomorrow with a friend. My trip will take me through my hometown: always a treat.
Happy weekend!

Beautiful photos – hope you have some fun today!

Good morning my friend. Love your river fog picture, can almost hear the fog horns! Had no idea your wedding part was so big, but I do know it was beautiful! I need to go back to Wharf Hill – I do love that place! Enjoy your weekend, I know a little rain won’t hamper a good time!
Beautiful pics all around. We’re overdue for another Wharf Hill visit too. Love the atmosphere – Great for Smithfield too!
I love this time of the year. Especially those fresh late summer evenings.

Sunsets have been incredibly vivid and the sun so bright here too in my neck of the woods. Have fun tomorrow!
Always good to start a weekend with a R5F ! – this one has a nice, local feel to it; river, river, river, restaurant ; )
Lovely first picture Dianna. I would love to be floatin’ one of those sailboats today!
All great photos. I like the restaurant’s building! Have fun antiquing! We’re off to celebrate Peyton’s 15th birthday.
Wow! I love the foggy rive and the sunset photos. Happy Weekend!
You and JR have a lovely yard for special events and etc. Chuck and I have been to the Wharf Hill with Connie and loved it! All the pictures are good as always. Have a good weekend!
What a beautiful place you have and no wonder people want to have their weddings there. Enjoy your dinner with Motormum and the antiquing trip too. 🙂
Excellent photos!
This fall its not the deer (we have a doe and her fawn living in our yard) that are doing all the damage.
At least with the deer, it grows back (or most of it does). Have you tried Irish Spring soap-they hate the smell). They have moved across town as a female bear and her cob have decided our big pine is the perfect place to sleep during the day. We have to keep an eye on Cinnamon as if she sees them she barks. Fish and wildlife are not going to move them unless they start trying to get into garages or houses and does not think they would be in the village it it had not been for the fires disrupting the whole eco system in our area.
Piles of bear poop require shovels…(and it STINKS!) and they rip up the plants to eat the roots (all my perennials are gone), I am sure glad we did not plant a garden this year.
I love the stillness and the beauty of the river picture. A little fog can make such interesting pictures.
