You may recall from Friday’s post that Motor Man and I were planning to host my family reunion on Saturday. Imagine my relief upon checking the weather forecast that morning and finding that the rain chances had dropped from 60% to 30%.
The reunion invitations suggested that folks arrive anytime after 3, and we’d plan to have dinner around 5:30.
This was our driveway at 2:45. A little rain shower, still dry under the trees.
This was our driveway at 3:06. Things had not improved. And, not surprisingly, we had no guests.
Motor Man watched radar and kept encouraging me by saying that it was a brief shower and would soon pass over us.
And, as usual, he was right.
A few minutes later, the rain had stopped, and we welcomed our only guest to arrive by water. Groom swan knows where to find a party.
But snubbed his nose beak at the bread I offered.
Our (human) guests soon arrived. Most everyone lives nearby, so they just waited for the weather to clear.
And, as usual, there was plenty of food. Fried chicken, deviled eggs, potato salad, desserts; typical family reunion fare. Motor Man and our friend, Harold, cooked hot dogs on the grill.
Our family reunions used to be much larger affairs, with sometimes as many as 75 people. The numbers have dwindled; this year, we had 18. But that’s okay: we’re keeping the tradition going.
I had every intention to take group pictures of the first cousins, in-laws, second cousins, etc, but, somehow, folks started leaving before that plan was put into action.
Thankfully, early on, I had my cousin, Betty, take this of Motor Man, Marshall and me.
Next year, we’ll get those “group” photos taken. And hopefully, if there’s a 30% chance of rain, it won’t become a 100% chance.

Whew…happy ending 🙂
So glad the rain stopped!! Coincidentally, we hosted a small family gathering Saturday and had torrential rain, too. It ended only 20 min before the first guest arrived .. and just before the sun came out to steam it up. Glad you continued the tradition of your “cousins reunion.”
Loved the family photo, too!

I think Groom Swan was holding out for hot dogs – smart bird.
Glad to hear it wasn’t a total rain out!
And I see the tent held up! Great family picture.
Sure am glad the weather cooperated.
oh, glad it worked out okay!
Love the pic of the three of you! And that big tree by your driveway is beautiful!
Glad everything cleared up! Looks like you guys had fun!
Everyone enjoyed this reunion and our host and hostess went all out to make everyone feel at ease…….They could not help very much with the hot weather, but the tent saved the day. And, of course Sundae was a hit, for those of us who had not met her. What a spoiled , beautiful and lucky baby!!!!!!! She makes you feel like you could kidnap her………
A little rain never hurt anyone! It turned out to be a great gathering with good food and family and friends. Enjoy the moment, store the memories. And thanks, Marshall for remembering!!!
It cleared up nicely, and I’m glad the tradition continued !!
Hey! Maybe I should plan a reunion and let it rain here!! All joking aside, I’m glad you did get the chance to continue with the party. Good food, good company, and a great family photo to treasure.
Wow, what a rainstorm (and great photo of it)! So glad that it cleared up because that looks like a you hosted a wonderful gathering with very yummy food.
Great family picture. You are surrounded by natural beauty in your area. Maybe groom swan caught sight of the deviled eggs and opted to boycott the party? Looks like the timing was pretty near perfect.
When there is a 30% chance of rain, I like to turn that upside down and say there is a 70% chance of sun. Doesn’t that sound better? 😉
Looks like a delicious reunion too!
Thanks for sharing your photos. I’m glad your keeping the tradition going. The family reunions are a great memory from my childhood. I wish Connor and I could have been there.
You pulled it off! Fabulous. You’re a wonderful story-teller, capturing the suspense of the weather with your camera. What fun.
Great time was had by all. I love the pic of the three of you!!
Great of you to keep the tradition. Maybe next year there will be more. Families do grow you know. Love your family photo!
