Once again, it’s Thursday, which means I’m participating in Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop. This is the prompt I chose to post about this week:
2.) Describe a time you felt startled.
And, for what I believe is the first time, I’m actually reposting. (Is that like regifting?) But, for most of you, this will be new material, since the original date for this post was February 23rd of last year.
I apologize for the rerun, but it fits perfectly with this writing prompt. So here’s the picture:
You can read the story here. And believe me, I was we were most definitely startled.

Oh my! I should say STARTLED fits this photo perfectly. Being “up close” with nature is one thing but having it right in your face is another!!
Pam
I always did like this photo! lol Reminds me of being on the Jamestown Ferry with a bag of bread!
That was great fun!! Loved your smile in the 2nd one – hearty and full of laughter, the very best kind 🙂

I think “startled” would not have described MY reaction! I am not very comfortable with up-close birds (thank you, Alfred Hitchcock!), so for me, the word would have been “panicked”, or maybe “terrified”…everyone else would be laughing, while I headed indoors for a change of clothing! What a great story!
My gosh, what a perfectly timed shot! It’s the one in a million photo that everybody loves — thanks for sharing.
I would have passed out I think! I had to call for help when there was a little sparrow that got in my house!! So amazing that you caught this shot!
I’m sure if it had happened to me, my expression would be so much worse than yours. Nature up-close and personal, says it all!
Goodness, you kept such composure, but I suspect it’s because MM was there to protect you and you knew that. 🙂 Loved the other photo. Beautiful surroundings, beautiful couple in love.
Whoa! That had to have been a fright! So glad you reposted this. It’s quite amazing.
Surprise. What a coincidence and something you can laugh about later.
LOL!
I like reposts; I hadn’t seen this one. It looks like the bird came very, very close to your heads! Startled is a good description!
I woulda screamed like a little school girl! It fits ‘startled’ quite well. Have to hand it to you, you stayed cool! Smiling here 🙂
You stayed a lot more calm than I would have! I don’t like being startled. Cute photos of the two of you!
The look on your face is priceless! I don’t blame you one bit for being startled. Cute story…and glad you finally got a great shot after 🙂
It’s not very often we capture moments like that on camera. That look on your face is simply priceless!
What a peach of a moment. lol
Perfect for the prompt startled. 🙂
I would be startled too. What scary thing to happen!
Birds can be especially startling. Fits your theme perfectly. But who took the picture?
One of our friends who was on the trip with us took both pictures!
That is definitely a startled photo—and take two is lovely!
Yikes! My Mom and sisters and myself are notorious for being freaked out by birds. One of our favorite stories for Mom to tell is when a bird was trapped in our house and she grabbed the daughter closest to her (me!) and ran, leaving her infant (my sister) behind. Thanks for posting! Your picture made me laugh.
I can almost feel your heart thumping!
Great photo to go with the prompt!
Your friends did a good job of capturing the ‘action’!
I would still be running!!!!!!!!!!!! Great shots.
I’d have to say this one fits the ” bill ” perfectly! 🙂 A great photo, candid all the way !
