New Kids On The Block

My neighbors and I have recently been keeping an eye on two special little families in our neighborhood. A couple of days ago, they cruised by our yard.

One family has three children. Those are a bit older than the two little ones in the other family. The goslings are so cute and awkward when they scamper around.

Back in the water, they’re just cute and graceful.

This isn’t a great picture, (since I cut one of the parents “in half”), but how sweet is this little gosling’s face?

We try not to get too attached to the little ones. In the past, goslings have tended to disappear one-by-one.  When that happens, it’s heartbreaking to see the parents, knowing their babies are gone.

Yesterday, when I was out taking sunset photos, and giving bread to the swans, the goose families were in the yard. It’s amazing how close you can get to them when you’re feeding them corn. (Yes, they’re messy; we’re very careful about where we walk.) Thankfully, for the most part, they keep their distance from the house.

We’re hoping nothing happens to these little ones. In spite of our best intentions, we’ve grown quite fond of the new kids on the block.

  1. Sweet! The babies are so cute….you’re right about how messy they can be but the occasional “whoops” when you forget to watch where you’re walking is worth it when you can get up close and see those fuzzy little goslings.
Great photos of the new kids on the block.

  2. I sure hope all those babies stay safe until grown. We have the same problem with ducklings in our pond. They do disappear one at a time too often. Last year we did get to see 4 out of 12 grow up and wing away!

  3. Your block is a happenin’ place. 🙂

  4. Dianna I hope they all make it too! Such sweet pictures this morning. Love the last shot where it looks as though the geese couple are beak to beak! The babies do have the sweetest softest little faces.

  5. What sweet looking things they are…as you say, just have to be careful where you walk! We have so many of them in town here, they are becoming a nuisance, sadly. Guess, in spite of the traffic, they don’t have any natural predators here! They really are pretty to watch.

  6. i hope they all make it!

  7. Awww…baby anything’s are always so dang cute!

  8. A gaggle of geese in Wild Kingdom !!

  9. Aren’t they the cutest! One of my daughters has a pair of geese; the female has several eggs in her nest but hasn’t started to set on them. She’s hoping to raise little ones. How nice to have them so close to your yard ~ well, maybe not entirely?

  10. Can’t believe this happens right in your back yard!! I have loved “meeting” the new babies this spring too!

  11. Oh, I hope nothing happens to those sweet little goslings! One year we had a pair of geese at our pond that tried to raise a family. Something happened to 2 of the 3 little ones. It was so sad! But, I’m glad they at least had one they raised to fly away with them! Sweet photos!

  12. Little babies of any kind are so precious. I hope your ‘babies’ get to grow up and you can enjoy them for a long, long time.

  13. Lovely photos. It’s hard to not get attached to them. Hopefully, they will all survive. So many predators in the wild.

  14. Oh they are so cute – how wonderful to have them wandering around your garden. Hope they keep safe 🙂

Chuck and I got some good shots of geese families on our vacation this week. I have to put some on faceback. Have a good weekend Dianna.
