Random Five Friday

Here are today’s random thoughts from our little corner of the world:

1.) All those early morning and late evenings I spent spraying Liquid Fence have been worth it.  I actually have a decent gladiola crop this year.  In the past, the deer have enjoyed the blooms before I even had a chance. Glads always bring back memories of my grandmother.

2.) A couple of evenings ago, Sundae was just “hanging around” on the arm of the recliner while I read the paper.  I took this picture of her from an odd angle with my cell phone. (A selfie, of sorts.)  It reminds me of a stodgy old gentleman in a library.  Marshall says she looks as if she’s ready to say: “Oh, yeah?!  Well, let me tell you this….”

3.) Wednesday morning’s sunrise.

4.) However, yesterday morning was an entirely different story. We had thunderstorms move through around 8:30.  Later, several people, myself included, said they’d never seen it as dark during daylight hours. It was practically impossible to get a good photo. Although the flash of my camera illuminated the raindrops,  you can also see that our neighbors’ exterior photo-eye lights were triggered by the darkness.

5.) This weekend is the Olden Days Festival in our little town.  It begins tonight with a concert (oldies/beach music), a classic car show and vintage market.  Saturday will be more concerts, along with the car show, vintage market, craft and food vendors and the farmers market. My friends, Donna and Shirley, are arriving this afternoon to attend tonight’s activities with us, spend the night, and “do the town” tomorrow.  Tonight’s weather is a bit iffy, but tomorrow looks great.

You may recall my post about last year’s Olden Days weekend, where I hitched a ride on a picnic table on wheels. Wonder what adventures we’ll have this weekend?

  1. I love gladiolas and that sunrise photo…beautiful, Dianna! The Olden Days festival sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you’re taking your camera…enjoy!

  2. 1. Congratulations on deterring the deer. Your glads are beautiful.
    2. Sundae is so cute. I agree with Marshall. She looks as if she’s going to speak.
    3. Beautiful sunrise.
    4. We’re in the midst of thunderstorms too. I hope yours pass with little or no damage.
    5. Have a great time at the Olden Days. It’s sound like a super fun event.
    Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

  3. Oh good for you for deterring the deer! My hydrangeas are recovering but my hostas are goners I think because I was away too much to be diligent about spraying. Sunday is adorable as always. Have fun at the Olden Days. Love the pic of you on the mobile picnic table! 🙂

  4. Lately everyday for me seems like randomness! Tues I got back to PA from TN. Today I fly to Oregon for a week. I’ll be back in PA after that for a couple days then drive to TN for a week or two then I’ll drive to NC for some beach time! See what I mean? Have a great Olden Days weekend in Smf!

  5. Getting ready for dinner and Mexican Train dominoes with friends tonight. Love the photo of Sundae.

  6. Glad your deer treatments are working – sure is a lot of work keeping them away from your flowers BUT it’s nice to see things blooming (and staying “bloomed”) for a change isn’t it. This is the first year I’ve seen my daylilies bloom in a few years – less deer! Have a randomly fun weekend with your friends at Olden Days!!

  7. A truly random week.
    1. Can’ stay ahead of the deer, rabbits, or groundhog. All have taken a toll on some veggies and roses.
    2. First ‘snap’ (green bean) crop came in – busy canning – YAY!
    3. More outside noise VERY early in the morning – siding on the house – it’s worth it.
    4. First Summer Bible Study – a Favorite of my summers.
    5. Sunshine today (following yesterdays storms) – sheets hanging on the clothesline.
Enjoy all the Olden Days events. I plan to get there – one day!

  8. I don’t remember the picnic table on wheels for some reason ??
& the ‘darkening’ that happened yesterday was one strange weather event. It didn’t creep up, it just got really dark all of a sudden..
Somebody in Hardee’s said “well, we’ve gone back to nighttime again..”

  9. Glads always remind me of my grandma’s garden too! So pretty! That Sundae girl sure is expressive. 🙂 Sounds like you’re going to have a memorable weekend with friends. Looking forward to the photos you capture from it.

  10. Shirley Matthews Dunn

Congrats on your beautiful glads! Sundae is so photogenic he should be in the movies lol. The weather has been crazy here too but the weekend is suppose to nice for Olden Days. Hope you girls have a great time. ❤

  11. I am so glad to see your glads in such beautiful form. They are a wonderful touch to that lovely room.

  12. My mom always had a row of glads along the edge of one of the vegetable gardens. Great shot of Sundae. That’s an interesting sunrise shot. Hope you had a great time at the Olden Days festival.
