“Homework”

Today is Thursday; time again for Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop. This week, I chose this prompt:

1.) The most challenging part about blogging for you is…

I began writing These Days Of Mine in September, 2010. My stats show that I’ve published 1,140 posts. (Considering I’ve prematurely published a few posts, which were immediately deleted, the correct number is probably more like 1,130.)

So, after all this time, the biggest blogging challenge to me is subject matter for my posts.

Do my readers really want to read yet another post about the swans, our cats, the wild horses at the beach, our adventures, sunrises, sunsets….?

I must admit, sometimes, at night, writing a blog post for the following day has the same pressure as homework does for a student. (And those of you who have known me a long time know how little I cared for school.)  There’s often a sense of relief on Friday and Saturday nights, not having a blog topic looming over my head.

But….just when I think I’m boring everyone, I’ll “run into” a friend or acquaintance who, upon immedately upon seeing me, tells me how much he/she enjoys the blog. A few even say that These Days is the first site they visit online every morning. Then, of course, there are all the sweet comments left by my readers.

And that makes the homework all worthwhile.

So, as we say here in the South….thanks, y’all.

  1. I think we should all do what we love…..and you love your blog and sharing your photos and we love seeing them. In other words, “it’s ALL good” !!!!

  2. I enjoy your blog very much! So glad I found it – keep up the good work!!

  3. And we thought homework stopped when we graduated! HAH! I LOVE your blog – one of the first things I look for in the morning. I’m glad the dog (cyberspace) didn’t eat your homework.

I love your posts and the fact that you take time to share. I have a blog roll on the margin of my blog that I check from time to time, but yours comes up in my mail box and is usually the first thing I open. I have an addiction to photography and will stay up for hours editing and posting. Why do we do this? I guess it’s the rewards we get for spreading a little sunshine. 🙂

  5. Thank you, Dianna. These Days of Mine just gets me going in the morning.

    • I had to come back to say thank you for doing all this homework. This reader/teacher gives you an A+++ for such a delightful place to visit. I still remember Jill’s comment yesterday, “I’m growing quite fond of this couple.” (Bride and Groom swan)

  6. Just write … any of the subjects are wonderful! 🙂

There are many aspects of blogging that I consider hard (and I’m still a relative newbie) – and I agree on coming up with topics! I also love when someone surprised me by telling me they are a reader. BTW – I love the picture posted!

  8. The comment monster ate my comment! I am going to try again.
I never never ever ever get tired of your posts, pictures and words!
    NEVER.
    I didn’t know you didn’t like school.. 🙄

  9. Great post!!! I think we all struggle with what to write about at certain times and I have finally figured out that the posts that “I”think are going to be the best get few views and comments. The ones I think are trash get more. It makes no sense. I also have to try to have my posts done a week ahead but I am always switching them out and changing them so my “calendar” that I keep track of them on is quite a mess. But it is all good, isn’t it??? People still keep coming back and stay and comment so that makes it all worth it. Keep it up!

    • Oh Beth Ann, I am so glad to read that. I agree – my very favorite personal posts have received the least attention and ones that I didn’t love so much haven’t. Go figure, right?

  10. Have to admit the cats are… Just cats. I never bore of the pictures and stories of all of you. Really enjoyed Chincoteague, one of my favorite places and haven’t been since we left the area. Would really enjoy pictures of a Saturday nite at the races or boat race if you go. There is a side of you a lot never see!

  11. I don’t really come back each morning for the photos so much as your unique point of view which is gentle and thoughtful and a nice reminder to celebrate the little things in life.

  12. You always have an interesting and uplifting blog to share each day. Please continue to do what you do. Love you.

  13. I love seeing all the pictures of our little piece of paradise. There is something to be said for capturing the beauty for a lifetime!

  14. Visiting here is like getting an extra smile each day. I think you’ve done an awesome job with your content. It never gets boring. Thanks so much for doing your homework. I truly appreciate it. 🙂

As I have said before, Dianna, God has given you such a talent for this. Yours blog brings smiles, love, fun, tears, information, beautiful pictures, family and friends. Who could ask for anything more. I look forward to your post everyday! ❤

  16. Wow, you’ve been at this for quite a while…very impressive!
Well, said…writing posts does feel like homework. Coming up with the topic is the hardest part for me as well.
You do a great job, Dianna!

  17. I’m a relatively new friend but am really enjoying your blog each day and hope you keep going!

  18. It can be tough wanting to “appeal to an audience” when blogging – I say write about what you want to write about and your people will find you! :O)

  19. Your blog is the first thing I read. I really miss it on the weekends but realize everyone needs a break! All of them are interesting.

  20. This is the first place I visit everyday- there’s always something great happening here !-
& as far as the homework is concerned: just be happy there aren’t too many math problems involved ‘these days’ 😉

  21. Your posts are NEVER boring. I rarely miss any of them and enjoy every one. I love the swans and adore the horses and the sunsets and the kitty tales and, and, and….. Keep at it Dianna. You are spreading joy.

  22. Mum and I love your blog! sometimes I think we all forget that something mundane or ordinary for us is new and exciting for someone else! I LOVE your photos of the horses and the swans and the cats well… I don’t need to tell you! I’m often surprised that people like hearing about our chores… but they’re different to other peoples so that makes them interesting. Please keep doing your homework! hehe!

  23. LOVE your blog. The photos – the trips to antique stores – the cats – swans – Beacon’s Castle – family – all of it. Oh, and the horses — and barns — there is no need to worry about us being bored.

  24. Linda Spencer - Georgia

I love your blog and read it every day!! Your pictures are great and I’ve been reading since you started. Please don’t give up!!

  25. I love all the things you post of your blog because they are what you love and that’s what blogging should be about, sharing what we love with others.

  26. Just my 2 cents but I think people come back b/c they feel safe here – you always offer something interesting, pleasant, positive and lovely — just like your personality, your blog is very welcoming and a comfortable place to come “sit a spell.”

    Hugs! MJ

  27. Well, I think your ‘homework’ deserves top grades!

  28. YES!!! I could have written exactly this! It really does feel like homework sometimes. God bless those sweet people who encourage us to keep at it. And I’m glad you do!

  29. I love your blog and look forward to it every visit! Quit worrying yourself and just keep writing 🙂

  30. I admire the fact that you can keep up the pace! I tried blogging 5 days a week for about 6 months and ran out of steam.

  31. I’m glad you keep doing your homework, and handing it in on time, Dianna. 🙂 Great reflections in your photo–how still the water is–perfect!
