VB 2

One of the reasons I enjoy blogging is all the new friends I’ve made out here in Blog-land.  Georgette Sullins is one such friend.  I hope you’ll visit her blog. Yesterday she surprised me with my second Versatile Blogger award. Thanks, Georgette!   Although I am concerned that all those nice things you said about me just might inflate my ego.

Now my task is to reveal seven things about myself, and to forward this award on to several other new (or newly discovered) bloggers.

Seven things about me not mentioned in previous posts:

1.  My hair wasn’t cut until the summer I was 7 years old.  This was my first grade picture. I was wearing a dress made by my mom, and sporting bangs also trimmed by my mom.

2.  I have 20 first cousins on my mom’s side of the family. (There were 23, but three have passed on in recent years.)

3. I was a victim of bullying the entire twelve years I rode a school bus. Apparently before the senior bullies graduated and moved on, they taught the art of bullying to an underclassman or two. I can completely understand how those who are bullied can be driven to the point of violence.

4.  I took piano lessons for four years when I was a child, and, as an adult,  played the piano in  church for several years.

5 . I never learned to swim. Because my mom was afraid of the water. And instilled that fear in me.

6. I have worked as an executive secretary, a delivery driver, a retail sales clerk and a farm hand.

7. Re: my work history. I was in the clerical/secretarial world so long ago that I operated a Telex machine, a mimeograph, and a ditto machine. You’ll probably need to Google those, because I doubt you’re familiar with them. Suffice it to say: ancient technology.

And now, the Versatile Blogger rules require that I pass on this award to several other bloggers. I always hesitate to do this, not knowing how folks feel about blog awards. I’m always thrilled that someone thinks enough of my blog to nominate me. So I’m taking a chance and sending this award on to the following bloggers:

http://93percenttrue.wordpress.com/  –  I just discovered Jimmy’s blog last week. I think he found mine the day I was Freshly Pressed, and I followed the link he left with his comment.  I haven’t caught up on all his previous posts yet, but plan to do so soon.

http://mymemoryart.blogspot.com/  – I believe that Adrienne also discovered my blog on “Freshly Pressed day”.  She’s an amazing scrapbooker, and I love reading her posts.

http://www.swampbillyranch.com/ – I just discovered Debbie’s blog a couple of weeks ago. Now I’m a regular reader.

http://itsallaboutpurple-debbie.blogspot.com/ – Debbie has become a faithful reader and commenter on my blog. And I look forward to her posts!

http://www.thefarmersdaughter2.blogspot.com/ – I’ve been following Cheryl’s blog for quite some time. She writes about flowers, family, pets: all the things I’m interested in too!

Please take a minute to visit these folks. I promise their blogs will make you smile.

And thanks again, Georgette!

  1. More well-deserved recognition! I’ll definitely read the blogs you listed. Always glad to make new friends!

  2. We are so much alike it’s scary!
    1. When I was little Mom always kept my hair short, but she cut it – and made dresses for me when I was young.
    2. I did have 20 cousins on Mom’s side – there are now 17.
    3. My bus rides to school were horrible.
    4. I took piano lessons for 6 years, played for the choir at school and church for 35 years.
    5. I swim very little – also due to a mother who was afraid of water.
    6. I am an executive assistant.
    7. I have used a ditto machine.
I always enjoy your posts! And look forward to visiting the bloggers you suggested! Keep writing!

  3. Same sweet smile years later. Congratulations on the award. Much deserved.

  4. I’m excited to check out these blogs – all new to me! I am very sorry to hear you were bullied as a child. There is nothing more I want for my daughter than to be kind to everyone and always stick up for people. If only more parents instilled that in their children. And I love the pic – you were an adorable girl (and still are)!

  5. Checked ’em out – a lot of gifted people out there in blog-land! And I figured I’d participate ….

1.I had glasses from the 2nd grade on, but upgraded to contacts in 9th.
2.I’m not even sure I can count all of my cousins.
3.I think, unless you WERE a bully, the schoolbus was wretched for everyone.
4.I can’t play any musical instruments, but I like to think I know how to listen!
5.I can’t swim, either, but hopefully I could float if need be.
6.I sell decorative flags & banners ( or try to.)
7.I’m not familiar with the ditto, but I did learn to type on a typewriter. Then moved right on to the two-tone Commodore 😦

  6. I dislike the water as well…I’m trying not to instill that in my kids….I’m trying! I remember having typing class (on a typewriter) in highschool….I need a texting class now! 🙂 Congrats on your Versatile Blogger Award! BTW….my hydrangeas are just beginning to bloom as well….gonna have to get a pic up soon!

  7. oh my. living by the water like you do, not swimming would be a shame! congrats on your award! very well deserved! and you’ve named a couple of my favorite ladies too (debbie & debbie). i’ve got to go check out the others!

congrats, dear dianne! you are a treasure!

  8. Congrats, Dianna!

  9. Congratulations Dianna!! And such a cute little girl! Why would anyone want to bully her is beyond me!

  10. Wow ~ thanks so much! As a someone new to the blogging world, this shot of encouragement feels wonderful!! I, too will check out the other blogs you’ve listed! I would never have guessed, with you living so close to the water, that you wouldn’t be a swimmer. My mom taught us when we were very young, and taught both my kids too! It’s nice to have a nice memory of my mom!! Thanks again for the encouragement!

  11. Thank you so much for thinking of me! When I was in middle school, Mr. Menzies had a ditto machine. I loved the purple ink and chemical smell! They made learning about the Industrial Revolution much more palatable!

  12. On your recommendation I’ll save todays blog (e-mail) and visit the sites you recommended. I really enjoyed learning the things about you. I wonder how surprised your “virtual” friends would be if they saw you and realized that the girl in the picture looks just like the woman today? Well the hair is a little different. Maybe you could blog some stories about the “Motor Man”Not the Saturday Nite guy I know.. except you could leave the sense of humor…does Marshall really know who the Commodores were? I think the were one “tone”…

  13. Shirley Matthews Dunn

Dianna, we both remember the Surry school bus bullying, not fun but we both could show them something now! Just look at us now. 🙂

  14. Congratulations again!
You are such a light to so many…I look forward to seeing what you’ve written every morning I fire up the computer.
My maternal grandmother is/was deathly afraid of water so she made sure her kids weren’t and they intern their children…I’m so glad, I love being in the water!
    ~d.

i’m gonna hop over and check out thes blogs!
