My First “Barn Charm”

Old barns have always caught my eye when we travel. Maybe it’s my “roots”: living across the highway from a dairy farm until I was twenty-three.

So today, I’m pleased to link up for the first time to Tricia’s Barn Charm. I’ve been intending to do this for quite some time, but just haven’t done so. Until today.

The barn in my photo is located just a few miles from us. I think it’s great that the owners have kept it in such pristine condition. One day last week, Motor Man and I were passing by, and I very calmly asked him to turn around. Actually, I said something like: “OOH, that’s great light!!!  We need to turn around!!!”

It was one of those strange weather days, where there were storm clouds on one side of the sky, but on the other side,  the sun was shining. By the time we made the u-turn, I took the picture, and we made the other u-turn to continue on our way, the sun had gone behind a cloud. And that wonderful light was gone.

I’m so glad I made my “turn around” request with the urgency that I did.

  1. You were right!!! The light is fantastic and even more so with the dark clouds in the background….you definitely have the eye of an artist. The contrast between the two photos is amazing.

  2. That’s a truly beautiful barn and photo…..looks like a painting by one of my favorite artists, Eric Sloane. I too love old barns – this one is beautifully maintained. Well done Dianna!!!

  12. I’ve always had a thing for old barns too. In fact, I took a few of a barn we passed by when we were in your neck of the woods in April.

I’ve always had a soft spot for barns too and so many are falling away. Bummer it’s so expensive to keep them standing.
That one you turned around for looked like it was well loved and a beauty to boot. Good work!
