Oh, What A Tangled Web….

Last weekend, when my niece and her son were visiting, we were out early one morning to feed Groom Swan. We also noticed the light was great for a little photography.

But you may not have noticed in the first photo the real reason I took these two shots. Here’s a closer look.

Now, spiders and their webs are WAY down at the bottom of my list of favorite things. But I couldn’t resist this web in the early morning light.

And I’d much prefer to photograph it than walk through it.

  1. Great shots……I’m not a big fan of spiders and their webs but the “art” of web-building is fascinating and actually rather beautiful – which is more than I can say for the occupants thereof!!

  2. Beautiful! I can’t get over how big that web it. Great catch.

  3. Believe it or not, these OLD eyes saw the web in the first picture! Amazing how the light is reflecting off the web making it look almost like design on the bark of the tree until you showed the close-up. Very observant and a great picture as always!

  4. Oh, my, I’m not a fan of spiders either, but do enjoy looking at their complicated webs! However, I walked out our sliding doors the other day and didn’t pay attention – there was a large web that caught my hair! Yuck! Guess it’s that time of year!

  5. Yes better a picture than walk through it…I have walked through several…ewww. This is a lovely picture.

  6. What an amazing picture, great light to catch the detail — maybe the old girl was trying to catch herself a Groom Swan for breakfast.

  7. We’ve all walked through one and instantly transformed into Ninjas; great shot, and thank you for capturing the beauty for all of us.

  8. Spiders are pretty low on my list, too. In fact they are at the bottom! However, I have been known to take a few photots like this.

  9. Great shots!
I get kinda crabby when I ride my horses though some of those and take it right in the face, thankfully none that BIG!
    Happy Friday.
p.s. That is one impressive tree, love the old boat.

  10. You’ve got that right. I wore one of those last night. (a small part of it, but still!) You did have a beautiful morning to share.

  11. ugh!! I just got the goosebumps… nothing beautiful about that, lol. Spiders and their sticky webs are my number one worst fear… I’ve even passed that fear down to my little man after he’s seen me freak out a time or two! Now he runs away screaming spider!! whenever he sees one

  12. Absolutely gorgeous! Mother Nature at her finest! One of Charlotte’s decendents was busy during the night!!

  13. Oh that’s a biggy. I’m glad you didn’t walk into it. Makes a nice picture though.

  14. I saw it in the first pic too. Now that is some BIG web!!

  15. yup, gotta see ’em first! 🙂

  16. I just love these two photos! DON’T LOVE spiders, webs or anything about them …. but these shots ~ the magic light ~ are wonderful

  17. Those big ‘ol spiders can make web masterpieces! I’ve always wondered, when I walk into one, does the spider think, “I’ve caught something big this time!”

  18. Soooo much going on in these! But so subtle! That blade of slashing sunlight is a great feature …….

  19. Whoa!!! Fantastic. Is that what’s called a “sewing” spider (or something like that)?

That’s what I call a spider web. A few weeks also at our church (Good Hope United Methodist) I saw a good size web with rain drops on it. It was not as big as yours but very pretty with the rain drops. Wish I had our carmera with me.

  21. Beautiful. It’s very majestic looking. Well done! I think your photo would be a great wall photo. 🙂

  22. That’s a great looking shot of the spider web. Don’t you just hate walking into them? I know I do. When I go around the house, there is always one between the tree and the house. I have learned to put my arm out to break the web before I walk into it because they are hard to see. I can only imagine what the passersby think when they see me walking like that!
    Have a great weekend!

  23. Last week, just a day after receiving my new DSLR, I walked past a beautiful web just around the corner from my house. So I ran home for the camera and went back. Great item to practice on, and it was covered with mist.

    Beautiful shots and light!

  24. Better hide Groom Swan – looks like he could caught up in that thing. Wow!
