Today, I’m sharing something a little different for this week’s Sunset Sunday.
Earlier this week, we drove by an old house just a few miles from us, and Motor Man noticed one of those large debris dumpsters in the yard. He commented that evidently the house was going to be demolished soon. He made a u-turn, so I could take pictures. It just happened to be at sunset.
No, my picture isn’t crooked. The house is leaning that much. And I can’t quite make out what those posted signs say….
Those trees along the right-hand side of the house have basically been holding it up for many years. Had they not been there, it probably would have fallen over long ago.
It’s a good thing we stopped to take pictures when we did. The next day when I drove by:
It seems fitting to have taken pictures of that old house at sunset on the last day it was standing.

Fitting indeed.
How fitting the old house had its photo taken on its last sunset……glad you were there to “record” it. 😉
Pam and Sam
That is so sad to see that old cabin gone. Was it located in Carrollton off Smith’s Neck Rd? Glad you got pics.
Serendipity at its best – a photographic preserver rides by at the last moment of life for the old house and takes a u-turn to allow it to live for eternity. Well done.
OhMyGosh gone just like that!
This is a thought-provoking post, Dianna. I’ve just been pondering the families who lived in that house. And also wondering — which came first the house or the trees…. And you “just happened” to throw in a sunset as well. Fantastic!
And I was sure those posted signs said, ‘For Rent’.
I remember that house. It’s been derelict for almost as long as I can remember. It’s a miracle it was upright as long as it was….of course, the trees helped, I imagine.
What a story that old house had. Great that you could record the last day. No post from Ree yet!!!
The house’s last day at sunset ~ so poetic. This is just lovely.
What a fantastic old house. I hope they saved and recycle that wood into something wonderful!
I know, or knew, the house well. It’s kind of sad. I’m so glad you got pictures of it. It makes you wonder who lived there and the history of the old house.
awww. thanks to you and your hubby for one last showing of this old grand dame… loved that weathered, worn wood.
How fortunate that you’ve given this house a little place in our memories.
Very sad. But fortunately you took a photo just in time.
Awe, it seems a shame to have to knock it down, but I suppose if it wasn’t knocked down it would have fallen down by itself.
It was good you managed to capture it the day before – with a sunset as well!!!
I’m glad to have been there for this one .. I think we all just kinda’ knew a few pics were needed .. I had noticed the dumpster as we pulled in, but didn’t imagine it would be down the next day. Sometimes you can’t plan ’em! – & so fitting at sunset ..
Yes, that was quite fitting! They make quick work of demolition these days. There’s been a vacant gas/convenience store at the corner of our street for quite some time. Recently we went by, there was heavy equipment sitting on the lot and the building was flattened.
Oh how sad that it had to go; perhaps it was getting too dangerous to be left. It’s like POOF!! and it’s gone.
Another reason to never miss an opportunity for a photo! Glad you caught it before it was gone…
The pictures of the old building and the sunset in the back ground are so peaceful and lovely. Nice job.
It is sad to see a house demolished. But I’d rather see an old one demolished if it has looked so sad and alone than a much newer, perfectly good one that someone just wants to change. I’m glad that you got to see it one last time. Maybe some of that old wood will be cleaned up and used in a new structure.
Bittersweet photos for the day. It’s great MM and you stopped and took photos of it and just in time. It’s so sad to see such places fall to ruin. One can only imagine the life that has echoed through the now crumbling walls. 🙂
Sad to see a house which once rang with life’s noises so dilapidated and empty. But you gave it one last hurrah with the sunset photo. Fitting for sure.
