Why I Bought A Cookbook

Even if you don’t spend much time in the blogging world,  you’ve most likely heard of Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman.

I can’t recall exactly how I came to know about her blog, but I believe I saw a link to it several years ago on a stamping website. And I became a fan. This was long before I ever thought about writing my own blog.

My friend, Doris, who’s also a PW fan, and I decided to make the one-hour trip to Virginia Beach Saturday to attend Ree’s book signing for her latest book, which is her second cookbook.

Many of you know that I don’t cook much. So, although I own two of Ree’s previously released books, I don’t own either of her cookbooks. At least I didn’t. Until Saturday.

Yes, Doris and I made the trip to Virginia Beach. Yes, we bought Ree’s cookbook. Yes, we waited in line to meet her. A line that, when we took our place, was about three times longer than this picture shows.

But the line moved much quicker than we anticipated. Ree was so personable, just as she is on tv.  I can’t imagine having that many folks waiting to see ME, talk to ME, have ME sign their books, have their picture taken with ME. I certainly wouldn’t be as relaxed as Ree.

See? Relaxed. I told Ree that I have a humble little blog.

Relaxed. Doris told Ree how much she and her husband enjoy Ree’s cooking show. And we both welcomed her to Virginia.

And here’s my signed cookbook.

My friends will tell you that it will, most likely, never endure a food splatter.

  1. GREAT photos! Looks like you and Doris were “happy campers” being able to get your autographs and meet Dee. I bet you had a lot of fun too!

  2. What a charming woman! I have never visited her blog – (don’t tell her I have never heard of her) – but I definitely will now! Lovely photos of you and Doris too…I have quite a collection of cookbooks, and though I do cook, I rarely use the cookbooks – just love reading them! Have a great day!

  3. How exciting is that?? wowza! Great photos of you all …

I don’t have any of her cookbooks but I do visit her site and have made some of her recipes – every single one I’ve tried has 1) turned out and 2) been amazing.

This is one of her recipes that hubbs extended family fights over at family gatherings: http://emjayandthem.com/2011/08/24/the-best-chocolate-sheet-cake-ever/

    Cheers!

  4. I love signed books – even a cookbook. It’s great that you had a chance to meet her since you follow her blog.

  5. I’m famous for owning, rather than using, cookbooks!!

  6. Great pictures. I watch her every Saturday morning too. Hey, how about try to make something from her cookbook…you just might learn to love cooking. Boy, wouldn’t Jr. be surprised?

  7. I’ve never heard of Ree — she’s pretty for a pioneer woman. However, you and Doris look absolutely stunning in your Irish green sweaters and colorful beads. What a fun road trip — it just doesn’t matter about the cookbook after all is said and done. 🙂

  8. I’d have to say, of the 1000plus cookbooks/magazines I have, I probably love The Pioneer Woman Cooks the most. Ree is not only a famous blogger, & a great entertainer, but also is a comedian in her step by step instructions on how to cook. Normally when I brouse a cookbook, I look at pictures and titles of recipes for ones that peak my interest. Her’s I think is the only cookbook that I’ve picked up and actually read from cover to cover…more than once!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on her new book!

  9. You both look beautiful in your green. What a great outing. You always have great recommendations.

  10. So glad you were able to meet her and get a signed book.

  11. How fun! That is a great picture of the two of you.

  12. What a fun day that was. She was so relaxed and enjoying the moment. Thanks for a great day with a wonderful friend. I think you should make Motor Man the Knock You Naked Brownies! HA!

  13. How cool that you two got to meet her! And the pictures of you both with her are fantastic. It’s so funny you did this post. CH and I watched the latest cooking show that he recorded yesterday and I mentioned that I really needed to get her two cookbooks. The food they ate for the girl’s weekend made my mouth water! I have been reading her a long time, the horses and ranch life hooked me and it wasn’t until later I realized I loved her photography! And now she has two kitties!

  14. i think i’m one of the only people in blogland that has not read her blog or her books or whatever. i did read an article about her in the paper, though. 🙂

  15. I love Ree! I have one of her cookbooks that I’ve used a couple of times. (I’m not a big cook either) My best friend (who loves to cook) gave it to me as a gift about two or three years ago (before I started a blog). At the time I had not even heard of her. Great photos! 🙂

  16. I guess it’s time to start a new hobby…cooking!
