There are many fruit stands/farm markets on the way to the Outer Banks. And, as you can imagine, they’re all very busy during the summer season.
The motto for one of those markets is: “Take a peach to the beach”. From the looks of their parking lot, especially on the weekends, many folks heed that advice.
Although Motor Man and I normally patronize the “peach to the beach” market, we’ve recently been stopping at (gasp!) one of their competitors, Morris Farm Market. BECAUSE, a few weeks ago, we discovered their home made ice cream, which is made with the assistance of this John Deere tractor.
See? The ice cream churn is driven by the PTO (power takeoff) shaft attached to the tractor.
And the ice cream is sooooo good. You can tell by the look in Motor Man’s eyes.
In addition to the ice cream, there is, of course, an abundance of fruits and vegetables available at Morris’s. They sell t-shirts, souvenirs, and even have their own bakery. But what caught our eye was the use of vintage items, such as this 1954 Chevrolet pick-up, in the displays.
And this old one-cylinder gas engine. You probably can guess that I only know what that is because Motor Man told me.
This old wringer washer reminded of Mondays when I was a little girl. Children were never allowed to get anywhere near one of these when it was in operation for fear an arm would get caught in the wringer.
Clothespin bags were a necessity in the old days. My mom always made hers.
There are also rustic birdhouses for sale at Morris Farm Market.
You know who these wooden swans brought to mind. And I wish I’d bought that little white slat watering can planter.
Something tells me we’ll be stopping at Morris’s on our next trip to the Outer Banks for that planter. And more ice cream.

Morris’ is my favorite place to stop. You could spend hours looking at everything…and eating ice cream!
Oh boy does THIS sound yummy! Never heard of an “operation” like this but obviously they’re doing something right! Wonder if I could make ice-cream with my lawn tractor….. 😀 😀 😀

Jen’s Dad would be in love with this place!
Oh my gooseness, the washing machine! Mom and Grandma both had one, and we were warned over and over not to get too close. By the urgency in their warnings, you’d expect that most of the women at that time would be living with flattened out arms from getting caught in the wringers…
We always stop at Morris’ on our way to the beach. So interesting and the butter beans are so good.
haha– I will have to tell Rick there’s another job for our JD tractor. btw I saw some JD onesies at Cracker Barrel last week. I could not resist–bought in a size 6 mos!
We’ve never stopped at Morris’ but I see to it that it gets put on our ‘gotta stop’ list. Interesting place.
What is it about places like that??! I love them too! And we’re lucky cause New England is full of them…my husband doesn’t quite “get” them…so I’m better off on road trips with gals. (although he is getting a little more into little stops along the way as he gets older…the ice cream would def. help!)
I love the big ol’ car right in the middle of the produce!!
what a cool place. i’d like it, too.
That’s the best use of a John Deere that I’ve seen in a while! 😉

What a great market! Way different that the Farm Market we go to every saturday to sell our wares.
Nellie’s Mom
I loved your pictures. You should get paid for this wonderful marketing campaign you did for them! We always shop at Grandys. They make their own frozen yogurt & great pies too! Our very favorite is the Grandys’ Special with a little bid of every fruit in it! Now I’ll have to go check out your new favorite!
This is funny … just the other day a man told me that “John Deere’s aren’t really WORK tractors anymore; you see the name on everything..” I wonder if he’s ever been here?! This looks like a very interesting place, and I haven’t had homemade ice cream in a while .. It’s one of the best things going !
Haven’t had home-made ice cream in years (NEVER MIND tractor made!) And none of the store-bought can come close. Looks like a real shopping experience!
you had me at “ice cream” but the method used to make it is so charming and unique!!
Love the bird houses and you are right, you should have bought that watering can planter, maybe next week?
Good time trip! I loved seeing the vintage items on display with the produce. And who would have thought of using a tractor to power the ice cream maker? Clever!
I do remember how wringer washer and put rubber diapers through that wringer diapers and explodes and I ruined a couple of shirts
Did you ever get anything caught in a wringer?or ruined a couple of shirts?
Yum! I love homemade ice cream. Never would have thought a John Deere would have a hand in making it…who knew? My dad would loved seeing that. Morris’ looks like the kind of place I’d love to browse in.
Ice cream is always a good reason to stop! Don’t think I’ve seen any made with a John Deere before, very creative. My brother got his arm caught in one of those wringers.
Ritchey and I stop by every time on our way to Nag’s Head! We’ll be going again in October!
What fun! And ice cream too? Even better! Oh, the washing machine reminded me of my childhood too. And clothespin bags, guess what? I still use one! Yep, I have a clothesline and on beautiful sunny days I hang our clothes, especially bedsheets, outside to dry.
Aw such good fun. I want some of that yummy ice cream.
That ringer type washer sure brings back a memory or two.
🙂
Peach ice cream? I actually know what a PTO is… 😀 I love this summery post.
