Friday’s Fences – Cambridge

Today, I’m sharing just a few of the many fences we saw last weekend in picturesque Cambridge, Maryland. Motor Man and I were there for the annual hydroplane (boat) race.  Cambridge is such a pretty town; we always look forward to our visit.

Love this unique picket fence…

…and the fancy gates.

This house appears to be vacant; looks as though it could use a little attention.

We’d never seen fences like the next two.  Motor Man says they definitely wouldn’t keep anything out…

  1. Cambridge is a beautiful little town…….and that first fence with its fancy gate would look magnificent with a fresh coat of paint! MM is right about the other two fences though – certainly not trying to keep anything out or in – just “staking a claim to the space” !

  2. They are beautiful fences. Have a wonderful weekend xx00xx

  3. The fence and gates in your top photo… beautiful! I am torn between the rustic look of the paint or fresh white paint. Either way it is a sweet fence!

  4. I think fences serve their purpose but the gate is what I like that makes the entrance interesting. Remember Cole Porter’s song, “Don’t fence me in?” Here’s a photo of an interesting gate near where I live that caught my attention last year, but I don’t remember seeing a fence next to it because of all the trees that lined the street:http://marygilmartin.wordpress.com/2012/11/22/photography-the-gate/

  5. No need to worry about keeping anyone/anything in if you just want to look good!! Very unusual!!

  6. Oh, I do like a picket fence. Wish I had one but with a 2 1/4 acre yard, that would be a tad too much, don’t you think?? 😉

  7. A lot of work went into that first one … and I’d have to agree; the last two are just show-offs! 😉

  8. Picket fences – brings back visions of my street when I was growing up!

  9. It’s nice to see ya all visiting “fences” up North since the North and South mended fences long ago…right?

  10. oh, they’re all very cool! love the ‘sunrise’ gates.

  11. It is interesting to see the various types of styles for fencing especially in different areas.

  12. Shirley Matthews Dunn

    Very nice and different fences!

  13. Great shots Dianna! You definitely have “an eye.” 🙂

  14. I wonder if they were going for the decorative factor rather than function. It does look like a pretty little town.

  15. Yep Cambridge Md. is a lazy laid back town….love crabbing on the Choptank River! Nice fences!

  16. These fences are so old-fashioned looking…really love the quaint flavor they give. ~ Sheila
