Songography- Both Sides Now

This week’s Songography selection is “Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell.

I was reminded, while researching this song, that some portions are rather “dark”. So, sorry, Joni, but I decided to pick and choose and only feature the more positive lyrics.

Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way…

…I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all…

…Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I’ve looked at love that way…

… and feeling proud…

…to say “I love you” right out loud….

    Mollie and Alfie

  4. The clouds reflecting in the water, amazing! Gorgeous shots!

  5. ♪♫Wonderful song. I see a teddy bear with outstretched arms in the second cloud photo. Since you share the same anniversary as my parents did, I have calculated this is your half anniversary. Happy half anniversary!

  6. The second image with the reflection is absolutely stunning

  7. Great shots and a very positive take on this song. Love your clouds reflecting in the water, and your little girl?? she is just adorable in front of her fairy castle with the little shetland

    • Hi, Jeanne, Thanks for visiting and commenting! Actually the little girl is our great-niece, Livy. That was taken last month at her 4th birthday party.

  8. Too cute! I was wondering if you would use any pictures from that day. 🙂

  9. You see! You even looked at the song from both sides now and decided to go the uplifting route :). That second photo is breath taking. The perfect crystal clear reflection in the lake. Totally viewing that scene and cloud from both sides…reality and reflection. Well done! Thanks for joining in on Song-ography!

    • Thank you for hosting! This is such a fun meme; I’ve loved music ever since I can remember. I’m already thinking of how to write about next week’s song…!

  10. I love the wedding picture! I wouldn’t have thought of that, but it’s perfect. I appreciate the way you focused on the positive. The language is lovely, but then it always goes to the dark side in the song. So let’s accentuate the positive! I’m glad to find your blog from Song-ography this week!

  11. Wonderful take on the positive parts of the song. Loved the little Fairy Tale photo and yes, Saying, “I Love You” on your wedding day certainly fits the lyrics. Well done.

  12. I love the fairy princess with her horse!! And your cloud/water photos capture my heart as always. And to say I love you right out loud – I love that you put that with a wedding photo – really touched me!

  13. Enjoyed your interpretation – that second shot is stunning and oh my, the angel wings and pony (too sweet and fun).

  14. Great photos to go with the lyrics ! – I’ve never really known much about Joni, but her first album ” Song to a Seagull ” is one to check out if you haven’t already !

  15. Shirley Matthews Dunn

Wonderfully put together but I’m not surprised. 😉

  16. Love the reflection! Great set of images!

  17. What lovely photos…thank you for sharing!

  18. Another beautiful post. 🙂

  19. What a lovely set of clouds! I also LOVE the picture of the little girl with the angel wings and the pony. So sweet!

  20. What an interesting blog! I found it via Doran.

  21. Great one! Joni is one of my faves and that song is one of my faves too! She went to the same art school I did (a few years earlier) and some of her lyrics were still “written on the wall” in the ladies loo!

  22. This is great Dianna! The lyrics just bring the whole thing together. I especially love your wedding picture. Talk about happiness! 🙂

  23. Well done, my friend. The whole post was perfect!
