Random Five Friday

In today’s R5F, I’m sharing a few pictures of our “mini” ice storm this week. I’m sure those of you who experience REAL winter weather will have a chuckle at our version.

1.) It’s been windy and nasty recently, so I had taken our garden flag off the pole. The ice decorated the pole itself – no need for a flag.

2.) Motor Man snapped this of one of our crepe myrtle trees. The smaller trees didn’t seem to suffer any damage, but the pines were laden with the weight of the ice. There were many broken limbs, and some areas in our town lost electricity for a few hours as a result. Thankfully, we didn’t.

3.) I never removed last summer’s plants from the old bicycle “basket”.  Sorry, ice plant: your days are numbered.

4.) Do you recall the saga of the squirrel determined to stash a walnut in the basket hanging on our back door?  This week, he must have come to retrieve it.  I noticed yesterday that it was gone. But a tiny “biddy” remains tucked away, waiting for spring.

5.) Gypsy and I took a selfie this week. She was so cute, cuddled up with her paw on my scarf.

And, how was your weather this week?

  1. No snow, no ice but lots of wind and rain. As I drove back in the city, I noticed the traffic lights were out and when I parked to go grocery shopping, I was told the store had no electricity. I wondered why there were so few cars in the parking lot. The sun finally came out yesterday.

  2. Brrrrr……..and I was just thinking after seeing the photo of your “ice plant” in the basket on the bike that the plant truly WAS an “ice” plant with this weather!!

  3. I heard you all had some ice, Dianna. I’m happy to hear it wasn’t anything too major. Our weather has been below normal temperatures and no sun which makes me cranky. 🙂

  4. Wasn’t it BEAUTIFUL??? Our row of crepe myrtles looked like lace. Day off from school was a bonus. Love that the squirrel came back for his stash.

  5. The “ice plant” makes a great winter display. I like it.

Weather here? Not enough snow and no snow shoeing until we do. However, next winter will find me HOME back in North Idaho so I’m not too bummed. Indiana isn’t known for having much snow pack anyway. So, I’ll be happy with whatever comes this way – even rain because I can always *play in the barn more if I need extra exercise😉
    Have a great day!

  6. Our mini ice storm was the kind I like. Beautiful for a few hour and then gone with no inconvenience. The ice makes even the most mundane plants glisten and shine.

  7. I missed the weather this week since I was either preparing for the family’s visit, enjoying the actual visit, cleaning up after they had all gone, or sleeping it off. I don’t think we had such a beautiful ice storm though. I heard there were some skidding accidents in the early mornings though.

  8. Our weather has been really nice. Sunny winter days here!

  9. Well – as you know – it’s been cold with a little ice & maybe 23 or 24 snowflakes yesterday morning …… but it’s nice out there today !

  10. It snowed for 3 minutes in Phoebus!

  11. you did get quite a bit of ice coating! pretty on that welcome sign. 🙂

  12. Excellent selfie of Gypsy and we LOVE your random 5!

I like the ice pictures very nice. It is amazing how the squirrels remember where they hide all their goodies!

  14. Beautiful pictures … and I am glad to hear you didn’t lose electricity. We have actually had a warm-up in Illinois, 30s and sunshine!

  15. Love the Gypsy-selfie! The ice can paint a beautiful picture as long as you don’t have to drive/walk in it 😉

  16. Ice isn’t fun to have, that’s for sure. But it does make for interesting and dare I say, pretty photos. Our weather is the same normal for us — cold and a bit of snow still on the ground. But the sun’s been shining and that makes me a happier camper. 🙂

  17. Hey, love the ice photos! You guys were frosty! ~ Sheila

  18. The only ice I saw was what used to be water in the birdbaths. And the frost on a neighbor’s roof. I saw a crow walking around the yard today, looking for the peanuts the squirrels and Blue Jays buried. They must have a terrific sense of smell.

  19. You captured the ice beautifully. Love the picture of you and Gypsy!

  20. Great ice photos. Love that Gypsy girl. She’s a peach to snuggle with to keep warm during your cold weather. 🙂
