The Twilight Tour, Part 1

You may recall my earlier post regarding Bacon’s Castle, and the Twilight Tour being planned at that location for this weekend.  I  portrayed my grandmother, Mae.  To refresh your memory, here’s a picture of her, taken when she lived at Bacon’s Castle.

And here I am, dressed like her, and standing in approximately the same place she was in that picture. (The steps and door are no longer there.)

I thought I looked the part of a depression-era housewife. Complete with the cotton stockings that kept falling down.

Here’s my handsome son, Marshall, who was one of the tour guides during the Twilight Tour. And that happens to be his regular job, too. He’s one of the historical interpreters for the tours at Bacon’s Castle.

The room that I was stationed in is the attic, or the garret as it was called years ago. That white pole was placed there for  support during the building restoration back in the 1970’s.

I caught the sunset through the attic window. (If you’re a regular reader, you know how I am about sunsets.) Yes, Mae had a digital camera in the attic this weekend. On Friday night, I was told that, on one of the tours,  someone had a meter used to measure paranormal activity.   Apparently the only place they had a reading that night was in the attic.

I didn’t see, hear or feel anything paranormal that night.

I do know my Grandma was up there with me.

  1. You couldn’t have had better company than Grandma….you can bet if anything paranormal OR normal was threatening you, she’d have made short work of them!!!
    You go, Grandma Mae!!

  2. She WAS up there with you! Your knowledge of her life and work at that house keeps her memory alive….
I’d have to say it was a success (all around) – The visitors seemed to be enjoying themselves quite a bit!! Looking forward to the next Twilight Tour installment!

  3. And what a tour it was. I enjoyed it thoroughly! Marshal (and yes he is quite handsome!) was a great guide, very knowledgeable. Of course you were excellent…did you say she had 12 children? Thanks again for a wonderful night!

  4. Perfect! You look just like her. What fun we had on the tour. And Marshall was so informative as usual. He knows his stuff!

What a great family history. I had no ideal before reading you web pages the history you have with Bacon’s Castle.

Sounds like a very good time was had by all.

  6. That was wonderful. Brought back memories. We took the tour once with Carol and girls. Love you.

  7. Hi…I stumbled upon this post while looking for photos of Bacon’s Castle. I visited for my first and only time in August of 2010 and it is an amazing place! I also happen to be interested in the paranormal…during our tour (which was wonderful! wish I could remember the name of the young man who guided us), on a sweltering hot day, I felt a cold breeze while standing on the attic landing, in the doorway to the room on the east side. Thought it was worth mentioning, because of what you said above. How lucky you are to know the house so well!
