Birthday Twins

Marilyn is my birthday twin. We were born on June 4.

Of the same year.

In the same hospital.

Our mothers were in the same room. They were acquaintances even before that. On the night we were born, my mom was in the delivery room, but, apparently, I was in no hurry. So they wheeled my mom out and brought in Marilyn’s mom. I think Marilyn is about a half hour older than me.

She was at my first  birthday party.

We started first grade together.

We went through elementary and high school in the same class. These were our junior class pictures, scanned from the yearbook.

We graduated on our 18th birthday.

It’s probably been twenty-plus years we’ve seen each other. Marilyn now lives about five hours away, but we reconnected about a year ago on Facebook.  Last week, she sent me a message that she would be in town over the weekend and wondered if we could get together.

We did. And, boy, oh boy, did we have a lot of catching up to do. We managed to stop talking long enough to have a picture taken.

We don’t plan to let another twenty years go by without visiting again. Birthday twins should see each other more often than that.

  1. Have to admit that neither of you look your age!
Hope you don’t have to wait that 20 more yrs to get together again!

  2. Thanks Dianna! It was so wonderful getting together! I have always loved the hospital story and the fact that we graduated on our 18th birthdays! Thanks for the compliment June….but Dianna looks much more than 30 minutes younger than me!! Looking forward to the next get together…and it will definitely be sooner than 20 years!!

  4. I’m sure not many people know their birthday twin! How much fun to grow up together – and then reconnect years later! Your son looks very much like you!

  5. Great story. I love hearing about those connections.

  6. Such joy! It’s amazing to make it from 0-18 with no friendship “break-up” ~ this is a reconnection worth holding on to!

  7. Great post! And it’s great that y’all reconnected! I also have a birthday twin; she’s two hours older, and doesn’t let me forget it .. what’s cool is that we’re all Geminis: it’s all about the twins!

  8. This is wonderful! You two look so great. I’m so happy you got to reconnect with your friend.

  9. How cool is this. I would like to know baby born in same time with me!!! :))) Love your posts!

  10. That is so awesome. My mom once told me to always keep in touch with my friends from childhood because it’s so nice to talk to someone who knew you when you were growing up. What a cool story – and I love that you reconnected on Facebook!

  11. Old friends are special because of all the “history” between you. I’m glad you rekindled your friendship! I have a special friend I met at the hospital. We shared a room after having our babies. Our kids (Sarah & Adam) grew up playing with each other till we moved away…but we remained good friends. I just saw her at my sons wedding and now “little” Sarah is getting married in Aug! I can’t wait to see her in wedding gown all grown up!

  12. What a cool story. How lucky you are to still have your friend in your life after all these years!

  16. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story of two pretty ladies, together again. I have some special girlfriends from my childhood years. We recently got together since one was back in the area. We could have talked the night away…some did, some went to sleep. It was an over nighter at one friend’s house. Girlfriends can be very special and love the rememinscing! Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting, Have a good week!

I have a friend that I’ve known at least 50 years, but she lives in OR and I’m in MO. We keep in touch tho. It’s wonderful to have friends that you go that far back with! Take care. ~Cheryl
