Last Saturday, during our little “Jammin’ on the James” party, several of our friends asked if Groom Swan ever came up in our yard.
I’m pretty sure I’ve posted pictures of him on land before, but if you’re new to my blog, you may have missed them. He most definitely does come “ashore” at times.
What’s amazing is how much larger he seems when he’s out of the water.
Although he has eaten from my hand once, I think we’re both a little leery about him doing that. Do we not trust each other?
There’s only one caption for this next picture: “Hey! You lookin’ at me?”.
Although he’s beautiful either way, he definitely looks more natural in the water.
Why do we call him Groom Swan? Click here for the answer.

Groom Swan certainly has it made in his “home” away from home. He has you right where he wants you. It is amazing to see him swim up and extend his neck to see if you are there. You both are good friends now.
He’s beautiful in or out of the water. Or should that be “handsome”?
Since I hadn’t seen the earlier post I didn’t know what you meant by ‘groom’ swan! What a great story! And wonderful pictures, as always!
It’s always a pleasure to see Mr. Groom and to hear of his antics. He’s certainly a magnificent critter. 🙂
My husband tells me often “I’m a swan. I mate for life.” Since he’s an expert on so many little known facts not known by me…I would guess they are “bride and groom” swans…husband and wife.
Keep that bread handy!
he’s amazing. i just love that you and he have this relationship. 😉
Thank you for these great shots of groom swan. I got so excited when I saw you so close to him. What a great friendship.
you should frame that last shot, it’s so beautiful!!!
He knows where to get the good bread! Nice little montage – he looks “at home” either place !
I would be too scared to get that close to him!
I think Mr. Groom is very handsome. And what a neck…I didn’t realize how big the swans are. Great photos, Dianna. Enjoy the rest of the day!
That is a lot of bird out of the water! What a special buddy you have, Dianna.
WOW! He’s huge out of the water! I had no idea he was so TALL.
Did you change your header? It looks different. I think.
🙂
No, I haven’t changed the header recently – guess it’s been a few months! Groom swan is pretty big when he’s on land.
Ok, the color looked more intense or something…don’t change it, I love it!
He is so big out of the water! What a treat to be close to him!
