My prompt for this week’s Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop :
3.) Married? Tell us the story of how the question was popped.
It was November, 2001, and Motor Man and I had been “seeing each other” for about 3 1/2 years. He had recently purchased a beach house at the Outer Banks. On Saturday, November 10, he and I had gone down to the beach for the day. That afternoon, we had plans to go out for a movie and dinner. I was coming out of the “necessary room” (that’s the doorway behind the sofa in this picture) after freshening up a bit.
Motor Man met me between the doorway and those barstools. He said he had a question for me. I thought he was going to ask what movie I’d like to see or where I’d like to have dinner.
Instead, he asked: “How’d you like to go pick out a ring soon? Will you marry me?”.
Needless to say, I began crying and saying “yes”, and calling Marshall. And my sister. And our friends.
Then we went to see the movie “Shallow Hal”. My head was so far in the clouds, I barely could tell you what the movie was about.
And so comfortable was Motor Man with his decision to pop the question… he slept through most of the movie.
