And The Best Actress Award Goes To…..

The prompt I chose for Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop today will come as no surprise to my fellow bloggers who subscribe to those prompts:

5.) Tell us the story of how your pet came to be a member of your family.

Motor Man and I had said good-bye to our much-loved kitty, Beezy, in November of 2009. She’d been my kitty for 14 years, and she and I were kitty/human soul mates. For months, I couldn’t bear the thought of another kitty, because I knew it wouldn’t be Beezy.

But in March of this year, the idea of a new kitty began creeping into my mind…and heart. One day I visited the Humane Society to begin the search for a new furiend. As the staff member walked me into the cat area of the complex, I made the comment that I really wasn’t concerned about color or breed of cat. I just wanted A. Lap. Kitty.

Meanwhile in one of the cages, a certain little calico’s ears perked up: “lap kitty, you say? I can be a lap kitty. At least for a few minutes.”.

When the staff member took this certain calico out of her cage and handed her to me, the kitty immediately curled up in my lap, turned her chin up, and that little one cat-power engine began purring. Everyone in the room commented that this was the kitty for me. The. Lap. Kitty.

We named the calico “Sundae”, because of her coloring: vanilla, butterscotch, caramel and a little chocolate.  But soon it became very apparent that the lap incident at the Humane Society was entirely an act.  Sundae should have been nominated for an Oscar. Or maybe an Emmy.  Because she’s certainly not A. Lap. Kitty.

Sundae (in April)

But she IS entertaining, sociable, cute, and funny, and she’s definitely become a member of our family. She’s also put on a few pounds, gained a little weight, gotten a little pudgy “blossomed” a bit since she’s been with us.

Sundae (this week)

So, without further ado, the winner of this year’s Best Actress Award (paws down) goes to…….. Sundae!

  1. What a cute entry. She has the personality of an actress, always entertaining. Beautiful pictures.

  2. Oh she’s a winner alright! Sam has a major crush on her, and I think she’s adorable too. Isn’t it grand that our cats can choose us like they do – even if they have to pull tricks to do it! LOL

  3. Love the spin on this prompt … and how she fooled you into thinking she was a lap kitty. I guess she knew what she had to do to get out of shelter and she did it!

    Visiting from Mama Kats.

  4. Loved reading how you found her .. or rather how she found you!! And the story behind her name, which I didn’t know.

She sure is a pretty lil thing. MJ

  5. Awwww I couldn’t get over here fast enough this morning Dianna! I am so happy Sundae won the Best Actress Award and your heart that day.

  6. This is one of your best stories:) The “before and after” pictures (taken in the exact same place) from being malnourished to being “blossomed” – including your edits….along with her expressions “before and after” from friendly to scowling truly prove your point! But she’s still beautiful on the outside!

  7. This is such a lovely story! The before and after pix….purrrrrrfectly charming…

  8. Love hearing how Sundae became a member of your family…so adorable! I think her acting was pure genius – if I was part of the Academy, I’d vote her in as a winner 😉

  9. Love it!

I lost my Dachshund, Dixie, in September of 2009 also after 14 years so I know how much that hurts. I only waited a month to adopt the two I have now. I still grieved over Dixie, crying nearly every day for a full year but those two wasted no time stealing my heart. There is always room for more critter love!

  10. So that’s why she’s named Sundae. Great story.

  11. Sundae has certainly gotten much healthier since she came to live with you. 🙂 She’s just adorable! Too funny how she fooled you though. Cat’s are so unpredicatable…part of why I just love ’em.

  12. This story makes me happy. Thank you for giving Sundae a forever-after home.

  13. Sundae is such a stinker! Thanks for sharing how she got her name, and her story.

  14. I’m so glad Sundae found you so she could help your heart heal! I’ll bet when you get home, she’ll be a lap kitty for a few minutes!!

  15. love this! still a match made in heaven! 🙂

  16. Love your telling of this…she chose very well! ….and next life I’m coming back as a cat so the GOOD before and after pics can go in her direction ~ can you imagine the luxury??!!!

  17. And she’s working on learning the language… I’ve never heard a cat talk so much. And she looks much healthier and happier in the second pic here: she’s home 😉

  18. And she looks fairly ‘adjusted’ in the last pic …

  19. Awww…Great story Diana! I also just love the “why” of her name. That’s perfect.

  20. Maybe she needed to act that way to get out and to a home!

  21. Love the story! Sundae deserves her award, but in addition to her best actress nomination, I’d say she deserves a beauty queen title as well. Soo pretty with her sundae flavoring colors. She’s colored quite a bit like our calico, Callie, who by the way, has also “blossomed” quite a bit since she came to live with us. 😉

  22. You’ve made this so much fun!! And I’m feeling somewhat jealous! After losing my kitty last winter, I now have a calico with a family of four teenage kitties, none of whom I can pick up, or hold, or pet! Sundae has responded well to the TLC you’ve given her.

  23. An award well won for Sundae. She’s adorable and always a fun character to hear about. She’s so photogenic. I think you chose the right kitty or rather I know Sundae chose the right heart to steal. 🙂

  24. Fabulous. All the way around!

  25. “blossomed.” Haha. Your kitty is so cute. I only have one right now, and he’s pretty annoying and kind of an old man. I’m looking forward to getting another sometime soon.

  26. Sweet post, Diana! Sundae chose her family well!

  27. She certainly does get the Oscar for beauty, charm and acting. How could anyone resist a face like that.
Sundae you’re a beautiful and very lucky girl.
    Sweet …..

  28. We brought home a little calico kitten about 18 months ago. She is not a kitten anymore; she is more like a small cow. And she’s no lap cat either, but she is very sweet.

  29. Sundae is simply beautiful!
